McLaren make counter-offer to Carlos Sainz amid Ferrari move. McLaren make counter-offer to Carlos Sainz.

The negotiations between Carlos Sainz and Scuderia Ferrari could slow down due to a counter offer from McLaren to the Spanish driver. This was reported by Marca, according to whom the Woking team could try to convince his driver to stay and continue the project beyond 2020 with a good economic offer and good technical guarantees mainly due to the arrival of the Mercedes engine.

According to recent reports in the Spanish newspaper, Carlos Sainz will give McLaren the opportunity for a counter-proposal, a courtesy due to a team where he immediately felt at home thanks to an atmosphere of mutual trust that he will hardly find in a sport as fierce as Formula 1. It is true, however, that saying no to Scuderia Ferrari is almost impossible: it is one of those trains that only passes once in a lifetime and that many world champions, who have lived glorious careers in the world of motorsport, have not had the opportunity to get on.

The top of the British team, therefore, will try to put on the plate a renewal of more than 6-7 million euros that in Maranello they have already offered to the driver, with the opportunity to continue and believe in a sports project which points to a complete rebirth – as mentioned – helped by the return of the partnership with Mercedes and thanks to the new technical rules that will come into force in 2022. Only Carlos, in the crazy race of Interlagos 2019, managed to interrupt the series of podiums that McLaren lacked for five years (the last time was back to the 2014 Australian Grand Prix, with Magnussen’s second place and Button’s third) and the same team principal Andreas Seidl believed very much in the Spanish driver, considered very important for the new McLaren course.

If the Spaniard does not accept, the number one favorite for his succession at McLaren remains Daniel Ricciardo, who will end the experience with Renault at the end of 2020, but the idea leading to Sebastian Vettel must not be excluded.
