F1 circuit layout records

Different layouts are kept separate where F1DB provides a layout identifier. This avoids comparing lap records from materially different circuit configurations as though they were the same track.

Singapore F1 records and Marina Bay Grand Prix statistics

Marina Bay Street Circuit transformed Formula 1 when Singapore joined the World Championship in 2008. The race became the first Formula 1 Grand Prix held entirely at night and quickly developed into one of the championship’s most distinctive events, combining floodlit street racing with extreme humidity, narrow barriers and a spectacular city-centre setting.

Through the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix, Marina Bay has hosted 16 World Championship races. Sebastian Vettel holds the driver victory record, Ferrari owns the constructor pole-position record, and the circuit’s history includes some of the most memorable races of the modern Formula 1 era.

Formula 1 has raced in Singapore since 2008

The first World Championship Singapore Grand Prix took place on 28 September 2008. Formula 1 then returned every season through 2019 before the race was absent in 2020 and 2021.

Marina Bay returned to the calendar in 2022 and has hosted the Singapore Grand Prix every season since. By the end of 2025, the street circuit had staged 16 Formula 1 World Championship races.

The event has remained at Marina Bay throughout its Formula 1 history, although the circuit itself has undergone several layout revisions.

Singapore hosted Formula 1’s first night race in 2008

The inaugural Singapore Grand Prix created a new chapter in Formula 1 history by becoming the championship’s first race staged entirely at night.

The temporary street circuit was illuminated by an extensive floodlighting system, allowing the race to take place after sunset while retaining television timings suitable for major international audiences.

Night racing proved an immediate success and became one of Marina Bay’s defining characteristics. Other Formula 1 venues subsequently adopted floodlit evening and night events, but Singapore remains the circuit that introduced the concept to the World Championship.

Felipe Massa took Ferrari pole for the first Singapore Grand Prix

Ferrari demonstrated strong speed immediately at Marina Bay. Felipe Massa secured pole position for the inaugural 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, starting ahead of championship rival Lewis Hamilton.

Massa controlled the opening phase of the race before a Safety Car dramatically changed the competitive picture. His subsequent pit stop went badly wrong when Ferrari’s release system sent him away with the fuel hose still attached.

The incident destroyed Massa’s chances of victory on a weekend that ultimately had important consequences for a Drivers’ Championship he would lose to Hamilton by a single point.

The 2008 Singapore Grand Prix became known for the Crashgate scandal

Fernando Alonso won the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix for Renault after starting 15th, but the circumstances surrounding the race later became one of the biggest controversies in modern Formula 1.

Nelson Piquet Jr crashed on lap 14, bringing out the Safety Car shortly after teammate Alonso had made an early pit stop. A subsequent investigation in 2009 established that senior Renault team figures had instructed Piquet to crash deliberately in order to create a strategic advantage for Alonso, who was unaware of the plan.

The episode became widely known as Crashgate and permanently changed how Formula 1 history remembers the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso delivered a Ferrari Grand Chelem in 2010

Ferrari’s first Singapore Grand Prix victory came in 2010 through Fernando Alonso, and it remains one of the most complete performances of his Formula 1 career.

Alonso took pole position with a 1:45.390 and led every lap of the Grand Prix despite intense pressure from Sebastian Vettel. He crossed the line only 0.293 seconds ahead of the Red Bull driver.

The Ferrari driver also set the fastest race lap at 1:47.976, completing a Grand Chelem: pole position, victory, fastest lap and every race lap led.

It was the only Grand Chelem of Alonso’s Formula 1 career and became one of the defining victories of his first season with Ferrari.

Sebastian Vettel is the most successful Formula 1 driver in Singapore

Sebastian Vettel holds the Singapore Grand Prix victory record with five wins.

His first three came consecutively for Red Bull in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Vettel later won for Ferrari in 2015 and again in 2019.

Those victories give Vettel the unusual distinction of dominating Marina Bay with two different constructors while also making Singapore the venue of the final Formula 1 win of his career.

Lewis Hamilton has four Singapore Grand Prix victories

Lewis Hamilton is second on the Singapore wins list with four victories. He won for McLaren in 2009 before adding Mercedes victories in 2014, 2017 and 2018.

Hamilton has also been one of Marina Bay’s leading qualifying performers, sharing the driver record for most Singapore pole positions with Sebastian Vettel.

His relationship with the circuit gained another Ferrari chapter in 2025 when he set the fastest race lap ever recorded on the current Marina Bay layout.

Ferrari returned to victory with Sebastian Vettel in 2015

The 2015 Singapore Grand Prix produced Ferrari’s second victory at Marina Bay. Sebastian Vettel took pole position and controlled the race to win ahead of Daniel Ricciardo.

Kimi Räikkönen completed the podium in the second Ferrari, giving the Scuderia two cars inside the top three.

The weekend was particularly significant because Mercedes had dominated much of the hybrid era to that point, yet Ferrari and Vettel proved exceptionally competitive around the Singapore street circuit.

The 2017 Singapore Grand Prix began with a major Ferrari collision

Ferrari appeared to have an excellent opportunity for victory in 2017 when Sebastian Vettel secured pole position and Kimi Räikkönen qualified fourth.

The race began in wet conditions, and the championship leader’s challenge effectively ended within seconds. Vettel, Räikkönen and Max Verstappen converged on the run towards the first corner, triggering a collision that eliminated both Ferraris and Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton, who had started fifth, avoided the incident and went on to win for Mercedes.

For Ferrari, the opening-lap accident became one of the most costly moments of its 2017 championship campaign.

Lewis Hamilton’s 2018 pole became one of Marina Bay’s famous qualifying laps

Lewis Hamilton produced one of his standout qualifying performances in Singapore in 2018. The Mercedes driver secured pole with a lap that put him well clear of a field expected to be extremely competitive around the street circuit.

Hamilton converted pole into victory the following day, adding another Singapore success during his championship-winning season.

The lap belongs to an older Marina Bay configuration, so it should remain separate from qualifying records established after the major circuit revision introduced in 2023.

Charles Leclerc took Ferrari pole in Singapore in 2019

Ferrari arrived at Singapore in 2019 after Charles Leclerc had won consecutive races at Spa-Francorchamps and Monza. Despite expectations that Marina Bay might suit rival teams better, Leclerc continued his qualifying run by taking pole position.

He recorded a 1:36.217 to beat Lewis Hamilton by 0.191 seconds, while Sebastian Vettel qualified third in the second Ferrari.

It was Leclerc’s third consecutive pole position and placed Ferrari in an excellent position for the race.

Sebastian Vettel led a Ferrari one-two in 2019

The 2019 Singapore Grand Prix became one of Ferrari’s strongest modern street-circuit performances. Charles Leclerc initially led from pole, but an earlier pit stop allowed Sebastian Vettel to move ahead during the strategic phase of the race.

Vettel went on to win, with Leclerc finishing 2.641 seconds behind to complete a Ferrari one-two. Max Verstappen finished third.

The result was Ferrari’s third consecutive victory following Leclerc’s wins in Belgium and Italy, and it became the Scuderia’s 84th Formula 1 one-two finish at the time.

Singapore was the final Formula 1 victory of Sebastian Vettel’s career

Vettel’s 2019 Singapore victory would prove historically significant beyond Ferrari’s one-two result.

It was the 53rd and final Formula 1 Grand Prix victory of Vettel’s career. He remained in Formula 1 through 2022 but never returned to the top step of the podium.

Marina Bay therefore occupies a special position in Vettel’s record: it was the circuit where he won more often than any other driver and also where he celebrated his final Formula 1 victory.

Charles Leclerc took another Ferrari pole when Singapore returned in 2022

After two seasons without a Singapore Grand Prix, Formula 1 returned to Marina Bay in 2022.

Charles Leclerc secured pole position for Ferrari in a wet qualifying session with a 1:49.412. Sergio Perez qualified second for Red Bull, only 0.022 seconds behind, while Lewis Hamilton was third.

Carlos Sainz qualified fourth in the second Ferrari, giving the Scuderia both cars inside the first two rows.

Ferrari scored a double podium in the wet 2022 Singapore Grand Prix

Sergio Perez took the lead from Charles Leclerc at the start of the rain-affected 2022 race and remained ahead through a demanding evening of changing grip levels, Safety Cars and interruptions.

Leclerc finished second for Ferrari, while teammate Carlos Sainz took third place.

Ferrari therefore left Marina Bay with two podium finishes even though the Scuderia was unable to convert Leclerc’s pole position into victory.

Carlos Sainz gave Ferrari a landmark Singapore victory in 2023

The 2023 Singapore Grand Prix became one of Ferrari’s most important victories of the ground-effect regulation era. Carlos Sainz secured pole position with a 1:30.984, while Charles Leclerc qualified third.

Sainz controlled the race from the front but faced intense pressure in the closing stages from Lando Norris and the Mercedes drivers.

The Ferrari driver deliberately kept Norris within DRS range during the final laps, helping the McLaren defend against the faster Mercedes cars while also protecting Sainz’s own lead.

Sainz held on to win by 0.812 seconds from Norris, with Lewis Hamilton third and Leclerc fourth.

Ferrari’s 2023 victory ended Red Bull’s record winning streak

Carlos Sainz’s Singapore victory was significant far beyond Ferrari’s own statistics. Red Bull had won every Grand Prix of the 2023 season before Formula 1 arrived at Marina Bay and had established a record run of 15 consecutive victories stretching back into 2022.

Ferrari ended that sequence in Singapore. Sainz’s win became the only Grand Prix victory of the entire 2023 season not achieved by Red Bull.

It also increased Ferrari’s Singapore Grand Prix victory total to four.

Ferrari has won four Formula 1 Grands Prix in Singapore

Ferrari has four World Championship victories at Marina Bay through the 2025 season.

Fernando Alonso delivered the first in 2010. Sebastian Vettel added victories in 2015 and 2019, while Carlos Sainz won in 2023.

Those four wins place Ferrari among the most successful constructors in Singapore Grand Prix history and span three very different technical eras of Formula 1.

Ferrari holds the Singapore constructor pole-position record

Qualifying has been an especially strong part of Ferrari’s Marina Bay history. The Scuderia holds the constructor record with seven Singapore Grand Prix pole positions.

Felipe Massa took Ferrari’s first pole in 2008, followed by Fernando Alonso in 2010. Sebastian Vettel started first for Ferrari in 2015 and 2017, Charles Leclerc added poles in 2019 and 2022, and Carlos Sainz completed the sequence in 2023.

No other constructor had matched Ferrari’s seven Singapore poles by the end of the 2025 season.

Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton share the driver pole record

Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton share the individual Singapore Grand Prix pole-position record with four each.

Vettel’s poles came across his Red Bull and Ferrari years, while Hamilton secured his four qualifying victories with McLaren and Mercedes.

Ferrari’s constructor record is therefore distributed across several drivers rather than being dominated by a single Scuderia driver.

Lando Norris dominated the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix

Lando Norris secured pole position for McLaren in 2024 with a 1:29.525 and converted it into a commanding victory.

Max Verstappen finished second and Oscar Piastri third, while Charles Leclerc recovered to fifth for Ferrari after a difficult qualifying session.

Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest race lap at 1:34.486, establishing a new benchmark for the shortened Marina Bay layout introduced one year earlier.

George Russell set a new Singapore qualifying record in 2025

George Russell improved the outright qualifying benchmark for the current Marina Bay layout during the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix.

The Mercedes driver took pole position with a 1:29.158, beating Max Verstappen’s 1:29.340 and Oscar Piastri’s 1:29.524.

Lewis Hamilton qualified sixth for Ferrari with a 1:29.688, while Charles Leclerc started seventh with a 1:29.784.

Russell’s 1:29.158 remains the fastest Formula 1 qualifying time recorded on the current 4.927 km Marina Bay configuration through the 2025 season.

George Russell won the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix

Russell converted his record pole position into victory in the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix, completing 62 laps ahead of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.

The Mercedes driver won by 5.430 seconds, while Norris finished only 0.636 seconds behind Verstappen in the fight for second place.

Charles Leclerc finished sixth for Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton crossed the line behind his teammate after encountering problems late in the race and was ultimately classified eighth following a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits.

Lewis Hamilton set the Singapore race lap record for Ferrari in 2025

Ferrari nevertheless left the 2025 race with a significant circuit record. Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap on lap 48 with a 1:33.808.

The time improved on Daniel Ricciardo’s 1:34.486 benchmark from 2024 and became the fastest official Formula 1 race lap recorded on the current Marina Bay layout.

Hamilton therefore owns the current Singapore Grand Prix race-lap record as a Ferrari driver, adding another Scuderia name to a Marina Bay record book already filled with Ferrari victories and pole positions.

Mercedes leads the Singapore constructor wins ranking through 2025

George Russell’s 2025 victory moved Mercedes ahead in the all-time Singapore Grand Prix constructor wins ranking with five victories.

Lewis Hamilton won for Mercedes in 2014, 2017 and 2018, while Nico Rosberg added victory in 2016 before Russell’s success in 2025.

Ferrari and Red Bull each have four Singapore victories, McLaren has two and Renault one.

Who has the most Formula 1 wins in Singapore?

Sebastian Vettel remains the most successful Singapore Grand Prix driver with five victories.

Lewis Hamilton follows with four, while Fernando Alonso won twice. Other Singapore winners through 2025 include Nico Rosberg, Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris and George Russell.

Vettel’s record is especially notable because his five victories include three with Red Bull and two with Ferrari.

Marina Bay has used four Formula 1 layouts

F1DB separates Marina Bay’s Formula 1 history into four circuit configurations rather than treating every Singapore Grand Prix as having taken place on exactly the same layout.

The first configuration, used from 2008 to 2012, measured 5.073 km and contained 23 turns. A revised 5.065 km, 23-turn version followed for 2013 and 2014.

F1DB identifies another 5.065 km, 23-turn configuration for the races from 2015 through 2019 and again in 2022. The largest recent change arrived in 2023, creating the current 4.927 km, 19-turn layout.

Those layout distinctions are important when comparing qualifying and race-lap records across different periods of Singapore Grand Prix history.

The Marina Bay circuit changed significantly in 2023

Redevelopment work around the waterfront forced Formula 1 to revise Marina Bay for the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix.

The former sequence of corners in the final third of the lap was replaced by a long straight, reducing the number of turns from 23 to 19 and shortening the overall circuit.

The change increased average speeds and substantially reduced lap times, which is why modern Singapore benchmarks from 2023 onwards should not be directly compared with records from the previous 23-corner layouts.

The current Singapore Formula 1 layout measures 4.927 km in F1DB

F1DB records the present Marina Bay Formula 1 configuration at 4.927 km with 19 turns, running anti-clockwise.

Formula 1’s public circuit information commonly rounds the track length to approximately 4.94 km. The statistics module uses the F1DB configuration data, so the 4.927 km figure is the appropriate reference for this circuit-record page.

The race remains one of the championship’s most physically demanding because drivers combine repeated braking and acceleration with high humidity, limited airflow and sustained concentration between close barriers.

Singapore qualifying and race records must be separated by layout

Marina Bay’s multiple circuit configurations make layout context particularly important when comparing lap times.

George Russell’s 1:29.158 from 2025 is the fastest qualifying benchmark on the current 19-turn configuration, while Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari 1:33.808 from the same year is the official race-lap record for that layout.

Earlier records, including qualifying performances by Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, were achieved on longer versions of the circuit and remain part of their respective historical layout records.

Ferrari’s Formula 1 record at Marina Bay

Ferrari has been central to Singapore Grand Prix history from the very first event. Felipe Massa took pole in 2008 before Fernando Alonso delivered the team’s first victory with his Grand Chelem two years later.

Sebastian Vettel added two Ferrari victories, including the 2019 one-two with Charles Leclerc that became the final win of Vettel’s Formula 1 career. Carlos Sainz then delivered another landmark success in 2023 by ending Red Bull’s record winning run.

Ferrari also owns the Singapore constructor pole record with seven and, following the 2025 Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton holds the official fastest race lap on the current Marina Bay layout in a Ferrari.

The combination of victories, poles, podiums and lap records makes Singapore one of the most statistically significant modern street circuits in Ferrari’s Formula 1 history.
