F1 circuit layout records
Different layouts are kept separate where F1DB provides a layout identifier. This avoids comparing lap records from materially different circuit configurations as though they were the same track.

Nürburgring F1 records across two very different eras
Few Formula 1 venues require as much historical context as the Nürburgring. The name is associated both with the immense Nordschleife used during the early decades of the World Championship and with the much shorter Grand Prix circuit that later brought Formula 1 back to the Eifel region. As a result, Nürburgring F1 records cannot be understood properly without considering which circuit configuration produced them.
This page brings together Formula 1 statistics recorded at the Nürburgring, including race victories, pole positions, podium finishes, Ferrari results, fastest race laps, qualifying records and the different layouts represented in the historical database. For comparisons with other venues, use the F1 Circuit Records & Statistics database.
Who has the most Formula 1 wins at the Nürburgring?
The all-time victory rankings above count Formula 1 World Championship races held at the Nürburgring rather than relying only on the name of the Grand Prix. That distinction is particularly important here because Formula 1 events at the circuit have not always carried the same race title.
The driver table highlights repeated success at one of the most historically varied venues in Formula 1, while the constructor ranking shows which teams accumulated the greatest number of Nürburgring victories across different competitive eras.
German, European and other F1 races at the Nürburgring
The Nürburgring’s Formula 1 history cannot be reduced to the German Grand Prix alone. World Championship races at the venue have appeared under different event names over time, meaning that a search for Nürburgring records is not necessarily the same thing as a search for every German Grand Prix result.
For this reason, the statistics on this page are organised around the circuit. Wins, poles and podiums are counted when the Formula 1 race took place at the Nürburgring, regardless of the event branding attached to that particular Grand Prix. This keeps the record book consistent with the other circuit pages in our database.
Nürburgring pole position records
The pole-position tables identify the drivers and constructors that most frequently qualified at the front for Formula 1 races held at the Nürburgring. These records span periods in which the challenge of a qualifying lap at the circuit was fundamentally different.
A pole lap on the Nordschleife and a pole lap on the later Grand Prix configuration should therefore never be compared simply by lap time. The circuit distance, corner sequence, car technology, tyres and qualifying regulations were all different, making the number of poles a more meaningful historical statistic than the raw stopwatch comparison between eras.
Most F1 podium finishes at the Nürburgring
Podium totals reveal which drivers and constructors repeatedly achieved strong race results at the Nürburgring, including competitors whose record extends beyond their number of victories. A long sequence of second- and third-place finishes can represent sustained competitiveness even when another driver leads the wins ranking.
The podium statistics are therefore useful alongside the victory and pole tables, especially at a venue whose Formula 1 history extends across such different periods of the championship.
Ferrari’s Nürburgring Formula 1 record
Ferrari’s association with the Nürburgring reaches back into the early decades of the Formula 1 World Championship and continued through the later Grand Prix-circuit era. The Ferrari record section above consolidates the team’s Nürburgring victories, pole positions and podium finishes into a single statistical reference.
Because the database is circuit-based, these figures make it possible to compare Ferrari’s Nürburgring record directly with its results at other historic venues such as Monza, Monaco, Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps and Interlagos.
Nordschleife records versus the modern Nürburgring circuit
The greatest difficulty when discussing a Nürburgring lap record is deciding which Nürburgring is being described. The historic Nordschleife and the later Grand Prix circuit are radically different configurations, so there is no meaningful single lap-time benchmark covering the entire Formula 1 history of the venue.
The layout records in the database separate the available configurations and their associated year ranges. This prevents a modern Grand Prix-circuit lap from being presented as though it had directly replaced a time recorded on the much longer historic circuit.
Nürburgring fastest race lap and qualifying record
Within each relevant layout, the database also separates the fastest recorded Formula 1 race lap from the fastest qualifying lap. The two records reflect different conditions: qualifying rewards maximum one-lap performance, while a race fastest lap can depend on tyre condition, fuel load, traffic, strategy and the point at which it was set.
Looking at the layout and session type together provides much more useful context than referring simply to the “Nürburgring lap record” without identifying the configuration or whether the lap came from qualifying or a Grand Prix.
Why Nürburgring F1 statistics need historical context
The Nürburgring illustrates why circuit records should not be reduced to a single list of lap times. Formula 1 has changed enormously since the beginning of the World Championship, but at this venue the physical circuit itself also changed on a scale rarely seen elsewhere in the sport’s history.
Victory, pole and podium totals can still be compared as historical achievements, while lap-time records are most informative when tied to the specific configuration on which they were established. The tables above are structured with that distinction in mind.
