F1 circuit layout records
Different layouts are kept separate where F1DB provides a layout identifier. This avoids comparing lap records from materially different circuit configurations as though they were the same track.

Montjuïc F1 records and Spanish Grand Prix statistics
Montjuïc provided Formula 1 with one of its most distinctive Spanish street circuits. Set around Barcelona’s Montjuïc Park, the fast and demanding road course hosted four World Championship Spanish Grands Prix between 1969 and 1975, producing a compact record that includes victories for multiple World Champions, notable Ferrari qualifying performances and one of the most significant milestones achieved by a female Formula 1 driver.
This page brings together Montjuïc F1 records including race victories, pole positions, podium finishes, Ferrari results, fastest race laps and qualifying benchmarks. The statistics are specific to the Barcelona circuit rather than combining results from the many different venues that have hosted the Spanish Grand Prix.
Formula 1 raced at Montjuïc four times
Montjuïc hosted Formula 1 World Championship Spanish Grands Prix in 1969, 1971, 1973 and 1975. During that period, Spain alternated its Formula 1 event between Montjuïc in Barcelona and Jarama near Madrid.
The result is a clearly defined four-race Formula 1 history at Montjuïc. Jackie Stewart won the first two World Championship races at the circuit, Emerson Fittipaldi won in 1973 and Jochen Mass took victory in the final Grand Prix in 1975.
Who has the most Formula 1 wins at Montjuïc?
Jackie Stewart is the only multiple Formula 1 winner at Montjuïc, having won both the 1969 and 1971 Spanish Grands Prix. His first victory came for Matra, while his second was achieved with Tyrrell.
The all-time rankings above show how Stewart’s record compares with every other driver to have raced at the circuit, while the constructor table provides the equivalent comparison for Formula 1 teams.
Ferrari’s qualifying strength at Montjuïc
Ferrari never converted its strongest Montjuïc weekends into a Formula 1 race victory, but the Scuderia demonstrated considerable qualifying speed at the Barcelona circuit.
Jacky Ickx took pole position for Ferrari at the 1971 Spanish Grand Prix, with teammate Clay Regazzoni alongside him on the front row. Ickx went on to finish second behind Jackie Stewart, giving Ferrari one of its strongest race results at Montjuïc.
Four years later, Ferrari again locked out the front row. Niki Lauda qualified on pole for the 1975 Spanish Grand Prix ahead of Clay Regazzoni, demonstrating the outright pace of the Ferrari 312T before a difficult race unfolded.
Montjuïc pole position records
The qualifying rankings above show which drivers and constructors achieved pole positions during Montjuïc’s brief Formula 1 history. With only four World Championship events at the circuit, every pole represents a substantial part of the venue’s complete qualifying record.
The Ferrari poles achieved by Jacky Ickx and Niki Lauda are particularly notable within the Scuderia’s Montjuïc history and provide an interesting contrast with the absence of a Ferrari race victory at the circuit.
Most Formula 1 podium finishes at Montjuïc
Podium statistics provide a broader view of success than victories alone. Because Montjuïc hosted only four World Championship races, a small number of top-three finishes can have a significant effect on the all-time driver and constructor rankings.
The podium tables above therefore complement the victory and pole-position records by showing which competitors most consistently reached the leading positions across the circuit’s Formula 1 appearances.
Lella Lombardi made Formula 1 history at Montjuïc
The 1975 Spanish Grand Prix produced one of the most important milestones for women in Formula 1. Lella Lombardi finished sixth for March and was awarded half a World Championship point after the shortened race.
That result made Lombardi the first woman to score points in a Formula 1 World Championship Grand Prix. Her Montjuïc result remains unique in Formula 1 history and gives the circuit a statistical significance extending far beyond its relatively small number of races.
The tragic final Formula 1 race at Montjuïc in 1975
The 1975 Spanish Grand Prix also became the final Formula 1 race held at Montjuïc. Safety concerns had already dominated the weekend before Rolf Stommelen suffered a major accident during the Grand Prix, with his car leaving the circuit and causing fatalities among spectators.
The race was stopped after 29 laps and half points were awarded. Jochen Mass was declared the winner ahead of Jacky Ickx and Carlos Reutemann, while Lombardi’s sixth place earned her half a championship point.
Formula 1 did not return to Montjuïc following the tragedy, bringing the circuit’s World Championship history to an abrupt end after only four races.
Ferrari’s complete Formula 1 record at Montjuïc
Ferrari’s Montjuïc record is defined more by qualifying speed and podium contention than outright race victories. Jacky Ickx’s second place in 1971 represents one of the key Scuderia results, while Ferrari also secured front-row qualifying positions during multiple visits to the circuit.
The Ferrari statistics above consolidate the team’s victories, poles and podiums at Montjuïc and allow its performance to be compared directly with Ferrari’s records at Jarama, Jerez, Barcelona and other Spanish Formula 1 venues.
The 3.791 km Montjuïc Formula 1 circuit
Unlike several historic Formula 1 venues that underwent major configuration changes during their World Championship periods, the historical database records Montjuïc with one Formula 1 layout. The circuit measured 3.791 km, contained 12 turns and ran anti-clockwise.
Its mixture of faster and slower sections made the Barcelona road course a distinctive challenge, but the same recorded configuration also means its historical lap records do not require the same multi-layout separation needed for circuits such as Buenos Aires, Paul Ricard or Magny-Cours.
Montjuïc fastest race lap and qualifying record
Race and qualifying lap records should still be treated as separate categories. A qualifying benchmark represents maximum performance over one lap, whereas a fastest race lap can be influenced by fuel load, tyre condition, traffic and the circumstances of the Grand Prix.
The statistics above therefore distinguish qualifying performance from race fastest laps rather than presenting one number as an undefined Montjuïc Formula 1 lap record.
Montjuïc records versus Spanish Grand Prix records
Montjuïc circuit records are not the same as the complete history of the Spanish Grand Prix. Formula 1’s Spanish World Championship event has also been held at circuits including Pedralbes, Jarama, Jerez and Barcelona-Catalunya.
