F1 circuit layout records

Different layouts are kept separate where F1DB provides a layout identifier. This avoids comparing lap records from materially different circuit configurations as though they were the same track.

Methodology: Wins, poles, podiums and lap records are calculated from the locally processed F1DB historical race and qualifying tables. Layout-specific records are used where F1DB supplies circuit-layout IDs. Fastest-lap values describe the fastest Formula 1 race/qualifying laps present in the source data and should not be confused with records from other racing categories.

Imola F1 records: Italian, San Marino and Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix statistics

Imola occupies an unusual place in Formula 1 history. The Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari has hosted World Championship races under several different Grand Prix names, yet all of those results form part of the Formula 1 record of the same circuit. This page brings those Imola F1 records together in one statistical reference.

The database above covers Formula 1 wins, pole positions, podium finishes, Ferrari results, fastest race laps, qualifying records and historical race results at Imola. Rather than organising the statistics only by event name, the records are tied to the circuit itself, allowing performances from different periods of Imola’s Formula 1 history to be viewed together.

Why Imola’s F1 record includes three different Grand Prix names

Searching for Imola Formula 1 statistics can produce several different event names. The circuit hosted the Italian Grand Prix in 1980, became the home of the San Marino Grand Prix from 1981, and later returned to the World Championship as the venue for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.

That makes circuit-based statistics especially useful. A ranking limited only to the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix would exclude decades of Formula 1 racing at Imola, while a San Marino Grand Prix ranking would omit both the circuit’s earlier and later World Championship appearances. The records on this page instead count Formula 1 results achieved at Imola itself.

Which driver has the most Formula 1 wins at Imola?

The all-time driver ranking above identifies the most successful race winners at Imola across its different Formula 1 eras. Combining the circuit’s World Championship appearances provides a clearer answer to the question of who has won most often at Imola than looking at any one Grand Prix title in isolation.

The constructor table applies the same approach to Formula 1 teams. Equal totals use competition-style tied rankings, ensuring that competitors with identical records are not separated arbitrarily.

Imola pole position records

A qualifying lap at Imola rewards commitment through a sequence of fast changes of direction, braking zones and kerb-heavy sections, making pole-position history a distinct part of the circuit’s statistical record. The rankings above show which drivers and constructors have accumulated the most Formula 1 poles at Imola.

Pole totals can be compared historically, but individual qualifying lap times require more caution. Cars, tyres, qualifying formats and circuit configurations have changed, so a lap from one era should not automatically be treated as directly comparable with a time from another.

Most F1 podium finishes at Imola

Wins show who reached the top step, while podium totals reveal a broader pattern of consistent success. The Imola podium rankings identify the drivers and constructors that most frequently finished among the top three in Formula 1 races at the circuit.

This can produce a different hierarchy from the victory table. A driver with fewer wins may still have an exceptional Imola record through repeated second- and third-place finishes across several seasons.

Ferrari’s Formula 1 record at Imola

Imola carries particular significance for Ferrari. The circuit is in Italy, relatively close to the team’s Maranello base, and Formula 1 weekends there have traditionally attracted a strong presence of Ferrari supporters. That makes the Scuderia’s historical results at Imola especially relevant to the ScuderiaFans statistics database.

The Ferrari section above tracks the team’s victories, pole positions and podium finishes at the circuit across the Italian Grand Prix, San Marino Grand Prix and Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix periods. It provides a circuit-level Ferrari record rather than restricting the comparison to one event name.

Imola fastest lap and qualifying lap records

There is an important difference between an Imola race lap record and the fastest qualifying lap. Qualifying laps are produced in a one-lap performance environment, while race fastest laps are influenced by factors such as fuel load, tyre condition, traffic and strategy.

The database therefore reports the fastest recorded race and qualifying laps separately. This gives each figure the correct session context instead of presenting one time as a universal Imola Formula 1 lap record.

How changes to Imola affect historical lap-time comparisons

The Imola raced by Formula 1 has evolved over time. Changes to the configuration mean that raw lap times from different periods cannot always be compared directly, even though they were recorded at the same venue.

The layout records table above associates available Formula 1 lap records with their corresponding circuit configurations and year ranges. This is particularly important when examining older Imola results alongside modern performances, because changes to the track can materially affect lap distance and lap time.

San Marino Grand Prix records versus Imola circuit records

The distinction between a Grand Prix record and a circuit record is especially important at Imola. The San Marino Grand Prix became closely associated with the circuit, but the event name does not cover every Formula 1 World Championship race held there.

Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix statistics at Imola

Imola’s modern Formula 1 return introduced another event identity: the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. Results from those races form part of the same circuit record displayed above, alongside the earlier World Championship races at the venue.

This allows modern drivers and constructors to be placed within the longer statistical history of Imola rather than being isolated in a separate modern-era table.

Compare Imola with other Formula 1 circuits

Use the F1 Circuit Records & Statistics database to compare Imola with Monza and other Italian, European and international Formula 1 venues. For broader circuit guides and Grand Prix information, visit the Formula 1 circuits section.
