F1 circuit layout records
Different layouts are kept separate where F1DB provides a layout identifier. This avoids comparing lap records from materially different circuit configurations as though they were the same track.

Bremgarten F1 records and Swiss Grand Prix statistics
Bremgarten was one of the most distinctive circuits used during Formula 1’s earliest World Championship seasons. Located in the forested outskirts of Bern, the Swiss venue combined a long lap with a succession of fast corners, changing light conditions and very little margin for error.
This page brings together Bremgarten F1 records including race victories, pole positions, podium finishes, Ferrari results, fastest race laps and qualifying benchmarks. The statistics focus specifically on Formula 1 World Championship races held at the Bern circuit rather than every event to have carried the Swiss Grand Prix name.
Formula 1 raced at Bremgarten from 1950 to 1954
Bremgarten appeared on the Formula 1 World Championship calendar in each of the championship’s first five seasons. The circuit hosted the Swiss Grand Prix in 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953 and 1954.
Nino Farina won the inaugural World Championship race at Bremgarten, Juan Manuel Fangio won in 1951 and 1954, Piero Taruffi delivered victory for Ferrari in 1952 and Alberto Ascari won for the Scuderia in 1953.
Who has the most Formula 1 wins at Bremgarten?
Juan Manuel Fangio is the only driver to win more than one Formula 1 World Championship race at Bremgarten. His first victory came for Alfa Romeo in 1951, while his second was achieved with Mercedes in the circuit’s final Formula 1 race in 1954.
The driver rankings above show how Fangio’s two victories compare with the wins achieved by Nino Farina, Piero Taruffi and Alberto Ascari. The constructor table provides the equivalent comparison between the teams that competed at the Swiss circuit.
Ferrari’s first Formula 1 victory at Bremgarten came in 1952
Ferrari achieved its first World Championship victory at Bremgarten in the 1952 Swiss Grand Prix. Piero Taruffi won for the Scuderia, with Rudi Fischer finishing second in another Ferrari.
The result produced a Ferrari one-two and became Piero Taruffi’s only Formula 1 World Championship Grand Prix victory. It also began a particularly successful two-year period for Ferrari at the Swiss venue.
Alberto Ascari led a Ferrari podium sweep in 1953
Ferrari’s strongest Bremgarten result came at the 1953 Swiss Grand Prix. Alberto Ascari won ahead of teammates Nino Farina and Mike Hawthorn, giving the Scuderia all three positions on the podium.
The result underlined Ferrari’s strength during the Ascari era and makes Bremgarten one of the historic circuits at which the team achieved a complete Formula 1 podium sweep.
Ferrari’s Formula 1 record at Bremgarten
Ferrari played a major role in Bremgarten’s short Formula 1 World Championship history. The Scuderia won in consecutive seasons with Piero Taruffi in 1952 and Alberto Ascari in 1953, while Ferrari drivers also accumulated numerous podium finishes across the circuit’s five championship races.
The Ferrari statistics above bring together the team’s victories, pole positions and podium results at Bremgarten, making it possible to compare the Swiss circuit with other major early Formula 1 venues in the ScuderiaFans database.
Juan Manuel Fangio won twice at Bremgarten
Juan Manuel Fangio established Bremgarten’s all-time World Championship victory record with wins for two different manufacturers. He won the 1951 Swiss Grand Prix for Alfa Romeo, finishing ahead of Ferrari driver Piero Taruffi.
Three years later, Fangio returned with Mercedes and won the 1954 race ahead of Ferrari’s José Froilán González. The result formed part of Fangio’s dominant 1954 season and his second Formula 1 Drivers’ World Championship.
Ferrari took pole for the final Bremgarten Grand Prix
Although Juan Manuel Fangio won the final Formula 1 race at Bremgarten in 1954, Ferrari led the field in qualifying. José Froilán González took pole position with a lap of 2:39.500, only two tenths of a second faster than Fangio’s Mercedes.
Maurice Trintignant qualified another Ferrari fourth and Mike Hawthorn started sixth, giving the Scuderia a strong presence near the front of the grid in Bremgarten’s final World Championship weekend.
Bremgarten pole position records
The pole-position rankings above identify the drivers and constructors that produced the strongest qualifying results during Formula 1’s five visits to Bremgarten.
With such a short World Championship history, every pole represents a significant part of the circuit’s record. The statistics also reflect an era in which Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Maserati and Mercedes were among the major forces competing at the front of Formula 1.
Most Formula 1 podium finishes at Bremgarten
Podium statistics provide a broader measure of circuit success than victories alone. Ferrari’s repeated top-three finishes are especially important at Bremgarten, including Piero Taruffi’s second place in 1951, the Ferrari one-two in 1952 and the complete podium sweep in 1953.
The driver and constructor podium rankings above therefore complement the victory and pole-position tables by showing which competitors most consistently finished near the front at the Swiss circuit.
A 7.280 km circuit through the Bremgarten forest
F1DB records one Formula 1 layout for Circuit Bremgarten, measuring 7.280 km with 13 turns. Unlike many venues in this database, Bremgarten therefore does not require separate layout eras when its World Championship lap records are analysed.
The circuit’s character was nevertheless highly unusual. Much of the lap ran through wooded surroundings and was dominated by bends rather than long conventional straights, creating a demanding high-speed challenge for the Formula 1 cars of the early 1950s.
Bremgarten fastest race lap and qualifying record
Even with a single recorded circuit configuration, the fastest race lap and fastest qualifying lap should remain separate statistical categories. A qualifying benchmark represents maximum performance over one lap, while a Grand Prix fastest lap can be influenced by fuel load, tyre condition, traffic and weather.
The statistics above therefore distinguish between race and qualifying performance rather than presenting one undefined time as the universal Bremgarten Formula 1 lap record.
The 1954 Swiss Grand Prix became Bremgarten’s final F1 race
The 1954 Swiss Grand Prix was the final Formula 1 World Championship race held at Bremgarten. Juan Manuel Fangio won for Mercedes, José Froilán González finished second for Ferrari and Hans Herrmann completed the podium in the second Mercedes.
No Formula 1 World Championship race would return to the Bern circuit after that event, bringing Bremgarten’s five-season championship history to an end.
Why Formula 1 stopped racing at Bremgarten
The following year, the 1955 Le Mans disaster had major consequences for motor racing in Switzerland. Circuit racing was prohibited in the country, ending the possibility of the Swiss Grand Prix continuing at Bremgarten.
The decision permanently separated Bremgarten from the later history of the Swiss Grand Prix. Although the event name eventually appeared again in Formula 1, the later World Championship Swiss Grand Prix was held outside Switzerland rather than at the historic Bern circuit.
Bremgarten records versus Swiss Grand Prix records
This distinction is important for historical statistics. Bremgarten hosted every World Championship Swiss Grand Prix from 1950 through 1954, but the Swiss Grand Prix name later returned at Dijon-Prenois in France in 1982.
