F1 circuit layout records
Different layouts are kept separate where F1DB provides a layout identifier. This avoids comparing lap records from materially different circuit configurations as though they were the same track.

Adelaide F1 records and Australian Grand Prix statistics
Adelaide occupies a unique place in Formula 1 history. From 1985 to 1995, the Adelaide Street Circuit provided the Australian Grand Prix with its first World Championship home and became closely associated with dramatic season finales, championship-deciding races and some of the most memorable street-circuit events of its era.
This page focuses specifically on Formula 1 records achieved at Adelaide, including race victories, pole positions, podium finishes, Ferrari results, fastest laps, qualifying benchmarks and the complete statistical record of the circuit’s World Championship period.
Adelaide hosted Formula 1 from 1985 to 1995
Adelaide joined the Formula 1 World Championship in 1985 and remained the venue for the Australian Grand Prix for eleven consecutive seasons. The inaugural race was won by Keke Rosberg, while the final Formula 1 Grand Prix at Adelaide took place in 1995 before the Australian event moved to Melbourne.
That uninterrupted run gives Adelaide a clearly defined Formula 1 record covering one of the sport’s most competitive periods, from the final years of the original turbo era through the naturally aspirated engines and rapidly evolving cars of the early 1990s.
Who has the most Formula 1 wins at Adelaide?
The driver rankings above show which competitors achieved the most victories during Adelaide’s eleven-race Formula 1 history. Because the circuit hosted consecutive Grands Prix rather than occasional one-off events, its all-time winners table provides a meaningful measure of repeated success on the South Australian street course.
The constructor standings provide the equivalent comparison for Formula 1 teams, showing which manufacturers most consistently converted competitive Adelaide weekends into race victories.
The 1986 Australian Grand Prix title decider
One of Adelaide’s defining Formula 1 moments came in 1986, when Nigel Mansell, Nelson Piquet and Alain Prost arrived at the final race with the Drivers’ Championship still undecided. Mansell entered the weekend leading the standings, but the title ultimately went to Alain Prost after a dramatic race in which both Williams drivers encountered decisive setbacks.
The result turned Adelaide into the setting for one of Formula 1’s best-known championship finales and established the street circuit as far more than simply another end-of-season venue.
The 1994 championship was also decided in Adelaide
Eight years later, Adelaide again hosted a decisive championship confrontation. Michael Schumacher arrived at the 1994 season finale one point ahead of Damon Hill, and both title contenders retired after making contact during the race. Schumacher therefore secured his first Formula 1 World Championship by a single point.
This second title-deciding race reinforced Adelaide’s place in Formula 1 history as a circuit where entire championships could be settled over one final Grand Prix.
Adelaide pole position records
The pole-position rankings above show which drivers and constructors were most successful in qualifying at the Adelaide Street Circuit. Street-circuit qualifying places particular emphasis on precision, confidence and extracting maximum performance while leaving very little margin for error.
Comparing pole totals with race victories can also reveal whether the drivers who were strongest over one lap were equally successful in converting that qualifying pace into Grand Prix wins.
Most Formula 1 podium finishes at Adelaide
Podium totals provide a broader view of success than victories alone. A driver who regularly finished second or third could establish an outstanding Adelaide record even without leading the all-time wins table.
The podium rankings therefore complement the victory and pole-position statistics by highlighting the drivers and constructors that most consistently finished near the front during the circuit’s eleven Formula 1 seasons.
Ferrari’s Formula 1 record in Adelaide
Ferrari competed throughout Adelaide’s Formula 1 era, giving the Scuderia a complete statistical record at the Australian street circuit. The Ferrari section above brings together the team’s victories, pole positions and podium finishes at the venue.
These statistics make it possible to compare Ferrari’s Adelaide record with its results at other historic Formula 1 street circuits and permanent venues through the same methodology used across the ScuderiaFans circuit database.
The extraordinary 1991 Australian Grand Prix
The 1991 Australian Grand Prix became one of Adelaide’s most unusual Formula 1 races. Extremely heavy rain forced the event to be stopped after only a small fraction of the scheduled distance, with Ayrton Senna declared the winner.
The official classification was taken after 14 laps, producing a race time of just 24 minutes and 34.899 seconds. It became one of the defining statistical curiosities of Adelaide’s Formula 1 history and, for many years, stood as the shortest World Championship Grand Prix by race time.
Adelaide fastest lap and qualifying records
The fastest race lap and fastest qualifying lap at Adelaide represent different forms of Formula 1 performance. Qualifying focuses on maximum speed over a single lap, while a Grand Prix fastest lap can be affected by fuel load, tyre condition, traffic and race strategy.
The database therefore keeps race and qualifying benchmarks separate rather than combining them into one ambiguous Adelaide lap record. This makes it clear whether a historical time represents race conditions or outright qualifying performance.
Adelaide records versus Australian Grand Prix records
Adelaide records should not be confused with the complete history of the Australian Grand Prix. Formula 1 moved the event to Melbourne in 1996, meaning modern Australian Grand Prix statistics also include decades of racing at Albert Park.
