A birthday connected with a defining Ferrari era
Michael Schumacher joined Ferrari for the 1996 Formula 1 season. His arrival began a partnership that would eventually transform the team’s championship record, although the breakthrough required several seasons of development and near misses.
His first Ferrari victory came at the 1996 Spanish Grand Prix. Further wins at Spa-Francorchamps and Monza followed that year, providing early landmarks in a relationship that continued through the end of 2006.
From the 2000 breakthrough to five consecutive titles
Victory at Suzuka in 2000 secured Michael Schumacher’s first Drivers’ Championship with Ferrari. It ended the team’s wait for a drivers’ title stretching back to Jody Scheckter in 1979.
Four further drivers’ crowns followed between 2001 and 2004. Ferrari also won six consecutive Constructors’ Championships from 1999 to 2004, making the period significant for the entire team as well as its leading driver.
