There was great anticipation yesterday among Ferrari fans and Formula 1 enthusiasts in general for the filming day organized by the Scuderia at Monza with the SF-26. The Maranello-based team took the opportunity on this occasion to test the upgrades that were originally planned to be introduced in Miami at the beginning of May, during the Grand Prix that will mark the resumption of the championship after the five-week break caused by the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian races due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
In particular, the biggest curiosity surrounded the now-famous ‘Macarena’ rear wing, featuring its distinctive reverse-opening design, which is expected to provide a gain of around 8-10 km/h on the straights according to simulations and internal estimates.
The test reportedly went very well according to early indications, with both Ferrari race drivers, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, completing as planned 100 kilometres each at the wheel of the SF-26.
The innovative rear wing is therefore expected to be used already in Florida, bringing forward the original development plan that had targeted its race debut for the Canadian Grand Prix weekend. The Prancing Horse also evaluated additional upgrades, including a new floor and further aerodynamic components designed to improve overall performance and efficiency.
ScuderiaFans.com is able to show you some images from the test that took place yesterday at Monza, and in particular of the ‘Macarena’ rear wing in action on Charles Leclerc’s car.
