Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concludes the first part of the 2023 Formula One season with a smile, thanks to the third-place finish in the Belgian Grand Prix race, which took place on Sunday at the 7.004-kilometre Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Stavelot.
However, it was a podium achieved despite a thrilling final part of the race, as explained by the Ferrari driver himself in the post-Belgian Grand Prix interview: “We had a pretty big problem towards the end of the race because I was told to save fuel. But overall, I had the pace to keep him behind. When I found out he had come in for the fastest lap, it certainly made my life easier.” – the Monegasque driver admitted.
Overall, however, at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, Ferrari has consistently shown good performance: “It was a positive weekend in terms of pace. Obviously, the race went well for me, while it was a shame for Carlos because we had a good pace. Looking at the Red Bulls, there is still a lot of work to do in terms of race pace and degradation, but this weekend, we were strong in any condition.” – the Monegasque pointed out at the end of the Belgian Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc and the Ferrari paradox
Continuing the analysis with Sky Sport, Charles Leclerc also highlighted a small paradox of Ferrari: “There is still something we don’t fully understand: for example, I would have bet on greater competitiveness in Budapest and less here, but the opposite happened; we need to analyze the situations, but it’s nice to have positive surprises,” he explained. He then concluded: “I am glad to finish this first part of the season on a more positive note, but we must not consider ourselves satisfied, we have to work to the maximum because the road is long.” – the Ferrari man concluded.
