Accident at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix, legendary Ferrari destroyed – VIDEO
The Monaco Historic Grand Prix is one of the Principality’s flagship motorsport events, and these days it brings historic cars and legendary drivers back to life on the streets of Monte Carlo. The event gives fans the unique opportunity to see beautifully restored classic machines racing around the famous street circuit. However, on Friday things did not go according to plan for Scuderia Ferrari legend Jean Alesi.
The Franco-Sicilian driver, who raced for the Prancing Horse between 1991 and 1995, had the pleasure of taking the Ferrari 312 out on track. Unfortunately, after exiting the tunnel section, he spun near the Nouvelle Chicane and ended up crashing into the barriers just before the apex point, causing significant damage to the car, which will now need to be repaired by its owner.
This is not the first time a high-profile driver has been involved in a crash with a historic Ferrari during this event. In a previous edition, Charles Leclerc was also involved in a similar incident: driving the 1974 car once raced by Niki Lauda, he hit the barriers at Rascasse, damaging the rear wing of the machine.
Below you can watch the video of Jean Alesi’s accident in Monaco.
The incident involving Jean Alesi highlights the risks inherent in driving historic Formula 1 machinery on the limit, even in a demonstration setting. While the damage to such a legendary Ferrari is a blow to motorsport heritage, the spirit of the Monaco Historic GP continues to celebrate the bravery of drivers and the timeless engineering of the past. Fans will be hoping to see this iconic 312 back in pristine condition and returning to the track in the near future.
