Italian motorsport engineer Guenther Steiner, the team principal of Haas, has highlighted the interconnected difficulties faced by his team and Scuderia Ferrari concerning tire degradation this season.
The American team has been grappling with excessive tire wear, which has resulted in them losing significant speed throughout their race weekends, especially on Sunday.
The head of the American team has illuminated the intricacies involved in managing tire wear and deterioration within the realm of Formula 1. Both sides are working towards resolving this challenge.
In an interview with motorsport-magazin.com, Gunther Steiner disclosed that they are relying on Ferrari’s assistance to address their problems with tire degradation.
“If they [Ferrari] solve it, that’s fantastic because then we will hopefully find a solution as well,” he said. “But if they don’t solve it, it seems to be a big issue. If they can’t solve the problem, it will become even more difficult for us.” – the Haas boss explained.
Former German Formula 1 driver Christian Danner offered his perspective to delve into the complexities of tire degradation challenges.
Danner highlighted that tire degradation encompasses a multifaceted interaction of factors that extend beyond the control of the driver.
“This has nothing to do with the driver not knowing how to manage the tires, they know it very well. Every professional knows that,” he added. – “It’s a combination of springs, dampers – shock absorbers play a significant role there – and of course, aerodynamics that create this tyre wear. If it’s like with Haas, where the car is dramatically slower by seconds, then you can’t do anything in the cockpit. It’s inherent to the design.” – Christian Danner concluded.
