Giorgio Scarlatti died in Rome, on 26 July 1990, having been born there on 2 October 1921. The Italian drove in two Formula 1 World Championship races in the 1956 season, at the wheel of a Ferrari, a 500 F2 in the colours of Scuderia Centro Sud. The first was the Monaco Grand Prix, for which he failed to qualify, while the second was the German Grand Prix, from which he had to retire with engine troubles.
Between 1955 and ’56, Giorgio Scarlatti also took part in some non-championship events and his best result was a fourth place in the 1956 Naples Grand Prix. Scarlatti continued to race as a privateer up until 1961, when he took his most important win, at the Pescara 4 Hours, which counted to the World Sports Car Championship, when he shared a 246 SP with Lorenza Bandini.
