On 3rd August 1952, Alberto Ascari won the German Grand Prix. The Scuderia was totally dominant at the Nurburgring, taking the top four places, with all drivers at the wheel of the formidable 500 F2: behind Ascari came Giuseppe Farina, Rudolf Fischer and Piero Taruffi. Only Jean Behra squeezing his Gordini ahead of the fifth car from Maranello, in the hands of Robert Laurent, prevented a straight flush for the Scuderia.
Having started from pole, Alberto Ascari made the most of a spin from Bonetto in the Maserati to move into the lead. The Italian was out in front for almost the entire race, apart from a brief interlude when team-mate Farina led during an unexpected pit stop to deal with an oil leak. Thanks to this victory, Alberto Ascari took the world title with two races to go. It was the first of the fifteen to date for Scuderia Ferrari drivers in Formula 1.
