On 6th August 1967, Chris Amon finished third in the German Grand Prix behind the Brabham-Repco duo of Denis Hulme and Jack Brabham. The season was marked by tragedy, first at Monaco when Lorenzo Bandini was killed and then at Spa where an accident ended Mike Parkes’ career.
Third was the Scuderia best’s result of the year and apart from Germany, the New Zealander made it to the podium in Monaco, Belgium and in Great Britain. The 312 F1 – 1967 was an updated version, especially on the engine side, of the previous year’s car, but it was not competitive at the highest level, so that, come the end of the season, Chris Amon was only fourth in the Drivers’ championship, the same result as the team obtained in the Constructors’ classification, in both cases a long way off the World Champions.
