Snow covers the Hungarian circuit as the redevelopment works at Hungaroring kick off: the drone video over Budapest.
Budapest’s circuit gets a makeover: redevelopment works have started at Hungaroring, the Hungarian track that will host F1 at least until 2032.
In 2023, the Hungarian racetrack came under government control through the State Secretariat for Sports, a government body of the Ministry of Defense. This change in management led to the establishment of a project to modernize the track’s facilities, expected to be completed in time for the F1 Grand Prix in 2026. The Budapest circuit has released a video on its channels to showcase the start of the works near the track. Filmed by a drone, the short clip of Hungaroring captures a circuit still covered with a thick layer of snow.
The activity, still dormant on the snow-covered track, has, however, begun in the areas adjacent to the circuit. The video from Hungaroring shows various construction vehicles and cranes in action.
Excavations and relocations have started, and the changes will affect many areas of the racetrack. A new pit lane complex, a new control tower, a media center, and the main entrance will be set up.
Accompanying the video on the Hungaroring pages is a caption. “20,000 cubic metres of earth was removed, 5,000 cubic metres of concrete was demolished, around 800 piles were drilled and a total of 345,348 kg of reinforcing steel was transported to the Hungaroring area, which is equivalent in weight to a Boeing 747 passenger jet. In short, the redevelopment of the Hungarian Formula 1 circuit is in full swing, and in the paddock, where the teams’ glittering motorhomes and trucks are normally parked, the first tower crane is now being built. It’s a fast-paced story – just like Formula 1 – but it fits the profile of the Hungaroring perfectly.”
