Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz feels the current generation of Formula 1 cars are becoming increasingly harder to follow, looking back on his difficulties in overtaking during the last race, which was held at the Jeddah Corniche circuit. The current generation of single-seaters was introduced in 2022 with the clear goal of improving the on track battles and overall racing by significantly reducing the aerodynamic turbulence generated by cars – also known as ‘dirty air’ in Formula 1.
However this direction has not prevented many teams, including Scuderia Ferrari, from taking advantage of some grey areas in the rules to introduce new aero elements that seem to once again make passing more difficult. Carlos Sainz believes this year’s Formula One cars are starting to become ‘a bit like the older cars’ which has made it harder to follow a car once again, as a result of the aero developments brought by teams on the 2023 F1 cars.
