“The mechanics deserve some dessert, I brought them some sweets” – Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz showed up at the circuit in Imola yesterday “armed” with two generous bags, one in each hand, with an unmistakable shape and form. The Spanish driver, who was recently conifirmed to stay with Ferrari until the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season, brought sweets to the men of Ferrari to celebrate together his contract extension for the next two years, an agreement that at the moment ‘aligns’ him with the contract of Charles Leclerc provided that the Monegasque does not further extend his deal with Ferrari, which was sisgned at the end of 2019 for five years until 2024.
His father, a legend in rallies, has always taken care of every detail of the relationship with the team and the son who wanted at all costs to follow the road of maximum speed on four wheels, has followed a good example and hopes to repeat the celebratory moment as soon as possible after achieving his first Formula 1 career victory, maybe even this weekend in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix
According to today’s edition of the Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport, Carlos Sainz’s new contract comes with a salary increase, which will go from the current 10 million dollars per season to about 12 million per year in the next two years (at the current exchange rate just over 11 million euros). “From December I was already certain of signing”, the words of the Spaniard, who had never been within the same team for four years in his career and will do so in the one he dreamed of as a child.
Now that the contract has been officially announced, Carlos Sainz will be able to focus on his goal, to become a Formula 1 world champion. And the main rival, with a Ferrari like this, is right at home: “The F1-75 suits Charles Leclerc better, but I’m fixing the details, soon I’ll have fun too”, concluded the Spanish driver, who wants to bounce back after the difficult weekend in Melbourne, where he retired due to a mistake on lap 2 as he was trying with too much enthusiasm to recover positions after an unfortunate qualifying session and a bad start.
