Telemetry analysis (corners and straights) between Scuderia Ferrari, Mercedes and Aston Martin based on data collected from practice for the Formula 1 2023 Canadian Grand Prix:
Hairpin analysis:
Carlos Sainz was quickest: he gained 0.02s over Lewis Hamilton and 0.08s on Fernando Alonso
He was the last to lift (on par with Fernando Alonso), but he braked extremely late, reaching the highest longitudinal acceleration (probably overshoot)
He partially compromised his exit
Carlos Sainz was clearly faster than Lewis Hamilton on the straights in the second free practice session at the 4.361-kilometre Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal
However, the speed advantage appeared at high speed: this is indicative of lower drag instead of a higher engine mode. He gained almost 0.2s in the last straight alone!
Lewis Hamilton had way better traction
A great example of slow-in, fast-out. Lewis Hamilton loses in every braking zone, but more than makes up for it exiting the corner.
Carlos Sainz needs to be less aggressive on braking, and focus on optimising his exit speed.
Lewis Hamilton’s better traction could be due to the fact that the track was in a much better condition when he set his fastest lap.

That anti dive Suspension doing it’s thing on traction
Top speeds:
11km/h between Ferrari/Haas and Aston/McLaren: despite that, Fernando Alonso had good one-lap pace while McLaren’s long runs were positive
Red Bull was ‘just’ 5th fastest despite installing a less loaded wing than yesterday: they probably had a more detuned engine than others
