“The lack of ambition of the Ferrari SF24 won’t worry Red Bull.” So, English media already condemn the new single-seater and Maranello’s 2024 project, deeming it not up to the world champions’ standards and perhaps too conservative to dare.
The cars haven’t hit the track yet for a direct comparison of their respective projects, but in England, judgments are already being formed. The prognosis for Ferrari, however, seems harsh and decidedly premature.
Journalist Mark Hughes expressed a very critical opinion about the Maranello team. “I’m not confident about Ferrari, especially concerning the battle with Red Bull. They have reworked the previous concept and have taken a turn from an aerodynamic standpoint. The work seems to be done to instill confidence in the drivers and to build a solid foundation for the future,” says Mark Hughes.
“This idea seems to come through from the words of Technical Director Enrico Cardile at the launch. He spoke as if there is nothing very cutting-edge in the new project. It meets the characteristics of a contemporary F1 car, but it doesn’t seem to go beyond the limits,” continues the English journalist.
Not only that, English media also think that the choice of the pullrod rear suspension could prove to be a hasty decision. “Perhaps Red Bull will look at that car and think, ‘Ferrari missed a key trick,'” suggests Scott Mitchell-Malm.
In short, voices from England might concern Ferrari fans, although it’s essential to wait before hitting the track. Only in direct comparison with rivals can one truly judge whether Maranello’s choices will pay off and if the car will be genuinely competitive.
