Enrico Cardile, Head of Chassis Area, has confirmed that the car presented yesterday at Fiorano will be the same as what we will see in Bahrain, but thoughts are already turning to the first updates to introduce on the Ferrari SF24 in the early races.
After a very long winter, full of rumors and speculations, Ferrari has finally unveiled the much-discussed Project 676, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc immediately taking the new SF24 on the track at Fiorano for its first kilometers. A single-seater that has divided experts, with some expressing perplexity about the solutions introduced on the car and others waiting for the track’s verdict before drawing conclusions.
However, the Maranello team is already working on making the first technical improvements, with wind tunnel development progressing smoothly: “The only thing I can say is that the car in the wind tunnel has already progressed and evolved compared to what was presented. Then we will decide when it is best to bring the first updates to the track.” – the Head of Chassis Area pointed out.
“The first step is to understand where we stand compared to our competitors. Wind tunnel work is progressing, and the car is evolving. Once all the material is put together, we will decide when to implement the first updates.” – the Italian aerodynamicist continued.
The feedback from the drivers has also proven crucial in creating a less unpredictable car, hence easier to drive: ‘We have translated the drivers’ indications into engineering parameters. We have accommodated their need for a car that is easier to drive and therefore exploit to the limit. We did not impose design constraints except to achieve a robust and sincere single-seater.’ – he added.

‘The goal is to have a car on the track that matches what we see in the wind tunnel. We have taken as a reference the development direction we adopted last year, which at the end of the season made us take a step forward in terms of competitiveness. The SF-24 represents a break from the 2022 and 2023 cars.’ – Enrico Cardile concluded.

Who knows if this break that Enrico Cardile referred to will turn out to be a winning card or if, as has happened in recent years, Ferrari will once again find itself chasing.
Even if the engineers in Maranello got the project right, the gap to recover against Red Bull remains big, but starting off on the right foot this year will be more crucial than ever, considering that a significant part of the 2024 Formula 1 project will be ‘recycled’ in 2025.”
