Sebastian Vettel will start his third Formula One season alongside Scuderia Ferrari and the German driver hopes for a much better showing after a very disappointing 2016 F1 championship, at the end of which he had to settle only with a fourth-place finish in the final World Championship standings:
“I continue to pursue my dream of becoming world champion with Ferrari and I still believe in this dream” – Sebastian Vettel told motorsports platform SpeedWeek, who recently posted the interview with the Scuderia driver – “Whether this will happen in 2017 is always the question, but of course no one has that answer yet. This year we have very different regulations, especially with completely different aerodynamics and wider tyres. That means that there will be higher cornering speeds, lower lap times and a greater load on each driver.” – Sebastian added, as reported by SpeedWeek.
Sebastian Vettel also explained that there is a common misconception surrounding Ferrari as they continue to get to grips with the new aerodynamic regulations: “When I look back at the 2016 season, I am firmly convinced that Ferrari and I are on the right track. The team is now much more advanced for the start of the new season than many people believe and this is why I am convinced that we will achieve all the goals which we have set for ourselves in the 2017 season.” – Sebastian added.
The Germain driver acknowledges the fact that the Italian team did not live up to the expectations last season, but stresses that Ferrari has not been treated fairly at times: “It annoys me how sometimes the results are not interpreted correctly. We have had a lot of criticism and it is not at all justified. Ferrari has made progress, very big progress, considering that we are competing against teams that have not had to make such fundamental internal changes during the last two years.” – Vettel concluded.
