The first day of the Pirelli tyre testing programme is currently underway at the Fiorano Circuit, near the Italian town of Maranello, where Sebastian Vettel is driving the modified SF15-T. The F1 tyre supplier has up to 25 car days in a season in which to test improvements to the design of its rubber and as a result reached an agreement with Ferrari to continue this process with a two-day session on the private racetrack owned by the Italian team. It follows the competition on Friday of another two-day test at the team’s private test facility using the SF15 T – (the car used during yhe 2015 F1 season), so as not to contravene FIA rules that restrict testing.
Pirelli wants to test and improve the warm-up characteristics of the wet tyres, especially considering the fact that standing restarts will be introduced in the 2017 Formula One season.
Scuderia Ferrari’s third driver and 2016 GP2 runner-up Antonio Giovinazzi will be driving the modified SF15-T tomorrow, for the second and last day of the testing at the Fiorano track, in order to evaluate Pirelli’s wet weather tyres. The information and data gathered at the end of the two days will be available only to the Formula 1 tyre supplier.
