P1 Fuels technology made headlines during last year’s British Grand Prix when former Scuderia Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel took Nigel Mansell’s 1992 championship-winning car for a demonstration run, using fuels without fossil substances.
On that occasion, Sebastian Vettel stated that one of the motivations for the event was to show that it was possible to continue using internal combustion engines from past and current race cars, but in a more sustainable way.
“I’m using zero-emission fuels to demonstrate that we can still maintain our history, our heritage and our culture in motorsport, but in a more responsible way,” he explained before getting on track.
P1 Fuels believes that demonstrating its technology in motorsport can help accelerate the adoption of its products by consumers, as the company is already the exclusive supplier of the World Rally Championship.
Now, P1 Fuels co-founder and COO, Benjamin Pochammer, has revealed that he has begun collaborating with some F1 team suppliers to evaluate potential future partnerships, as the category will switch to fully sustainable fuels from 2026.

While F1 is currently working exclusively with Aramco for the development of the regulations relating to the 2026 fuels, P1 states that discussions are already underway with teams to see how it could be involved: “We are getting to know each other,” Benjamin Pochammer told Motorsport.com at the Rally of Portugal, regarding the level of collaboration between his company and F1 teams – “At the moment there is no tender race in F1, because Aramco is the only one in that position. But in Formula 1 everyone can drive with different fuel companies. So, actually, we have a couple of F1 companies already working with the teams and they want to test our products.”
Although Benjamin Pochammer did not go into detail about which companies and teams they are talking to, he stated that it is an “exciting” possibility as it could introduce P1 products to the public.
“We love racing, so it’s exciting,” he said. “But we’re looking at the mass market. We really want to make a difference. We really have a vision, and this is the first step, but the second step is to come out in the open so everyone can use this kind of fuel because that’s our vision.” – he pointed out.
The relationship with Sebastian Vettel
Although the connection with Sebastian Vettel has been great for introducing P1 products, Benjamin Pochammer stated that their relationship is entirely informal and was triggered simply by the German’s desire to do his part to help the climate.
The P1 Fuels co-founder and COO added: “In 2015 he said to me, ‘I have to do something for the climate, and I want to race.’ So, there was a main idea. It took a couple of years, and now we have proved that it works in every engine. The regulations are there, and the world is looking at this solution. He [Vettel] loves what P1 is doing. He is not an official ambassador or anything like that.” – Benjamin Pochammer concluded.
