Ross Brawn, the Formula One Managing Director of Motorsports, has acknowledged that Formula One cars must lose weight when taking into consideration the development for the future seasons. While laptimes are currently impressive, Formula 1 figures including Robert Kubica and Paddy Lowe have said the way the cars have become heavier over the last decade is not positive.
The former Scuderia Ferrari motorsport engineer and Formula One team principal Rboss Brawn explained: “The weight of the cars will be reduced. The heavier the car, the more it wears out the tyres and consumes the fuel. Given the hybrid technology, it is unrealistic to return to 500kg, but where we are at the moment – 733kg – is too much. It’s not that different to sports cars.” – the Formula One Managing Director of Motorsports said, as reportde earlier today by the leading German automobile magazine Auto Motor und Sport.
The 2018 Formula One world championship begins this weekend with the Australian Grand Prix, which is due to be contested of fifty-eight laps of the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit. The race will mark the competitive début of the “halo” cockpit protection device after eighteen months of rigorous testing.
