Michael Mann’s highly anticipated film “Ferrari,” starring Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz, has exciting updates, including a confirmation regarding the release date. According to online news site Deadline, the movie is set to have its world premiere at the upcoming Venice Film Festival before hitting theaters on Christmas later this year. Fans of the director and the impressive cast have been eagerly awaiting this film, just like Ferrari F1 fans who are looking forward to experiencing a tribute to Enzo Ferrari, an Italian motor racing driver and entrepreneur, the founder of the Scuderia Ferrari Grand Prix motor racing team, and subsequently of the Ferrari automobile brand.
What is “Ferrari” about?
As the title suggests, the movie follows the story of Enzo Ferrari (Adam Driver), a former Formula 1 racer who faces a crisis with the racing brand he built alongside his wife over the past decade. Set in the summer of 1957, Enzo and his wife Laura (Penélope Cruz) are dealing with financial troubles and the grief of losing their son. As the Ferrari family struggles, their drivers’ determination to win pushes them to the limit. Enzo takes a daring gamble on one race, the treacherous 1,000-mile race across Italy known as the iconic Mille Miglia.
What adds to the excitement of the release is the fact that the film has been in development since the 2000s. The premise of the story, centered around the prestigious Mille Miglia race and Ferrari’s involvement in it, is captivating for fans. The biopic will also explore the tragic events surrounding the race, including the crash that claimed the lives of nine people, including Alfonso de Portago and navigator Edmund Nelson.
With an impressive ensemble cast that includes Shailene Woodley, Jack O’Connell, Sarah Gadon, Patrick Dempsey, and Gabriel Leone, “Ferrari” promises both high-speed racing and intense drama. Michael Mann directs the film based on a script by Troy Kennedy Martin, adapted from Brock Yates’ book “Enzo Ferrari: The Man and the Machine.” The movie is produced by Mann’s Moto Pictures, along with P.J. van Sandwijk, John Lesher, Marie Savare, John Friedberg, Lars Sylvest, Thorsten Schumacher, and Gareth West.
Backed by such talented individuals, “Ferrari” has the potential to become a favorite during award season. Michael Mann is renowned for his impressive filmography, including “Thief,” “Manhunter,” “The Last of the Mohicans,” and “Heat,” among others. Adam Driver has also proven his talent in the biopic genre with his portrayal of Maurizio Gucci in 2021’s “The House of Gucci.” It will be fascinating to see how Mann and Driver bring Enzo Ferrari’s story to life.
Mark your calendars for the theatrical release of “Ferrari” on December 25.
