The recent resignation of the now ex Scuderia Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto opens a new highly anticipated matter: the person who will replace the Italian manager at the top of the Ferrari Racing Department from next year.
However, the identity of the successor is not yet known. The past few days have been marked by many reports in the Italian newspapers. Among the names mentioned by the media there is that of Frédéric Vasseur, who is seen as the favourite to get the job, while Ferrari boss in GT series Antonio Coletta has also been indicated as a possible replacement.
The Dutch site RacingNews365 also reports of a surprising name, that of Paul Hembery. The 56-year-old English engineer, an old acquaintance of Formula 1 until 2017 as he worked for the official tyre supplier Pirelli (he was the predecessor of Mario Isola), could be in the running for the vacant seat in Maranello.
Journalist Dieter Rencken outlines the profile of the ideal Ferrari boss: “Here is the ideal team principal: a true racing man, who speaks fluent Italian and lives in Italy, or who would agree to move there. A person expert in the Italian environment and capable of ignoring his interference. A man prepared to be judged every two months by passionate fans, capable of managing a team of 1200 different people, carrying out high-performance development according to the rules.” – the Dutch website explains.
“What Ferrari needs – writes Dieter Rencken – is not so much a team principal as a full-fledged manager“. The RacingNews365 article continues: “No candidate can meet all the requirements, but one comes close: a racing man with solid knowledge of Formula 1, speaks Italian and knows the environment. He lived in Italy – he continues to do so – for many years before embarking on a cosmopolitan corporate life. He understands F1 politics intimately and most importantly, he is available immediately.”

In closing, Dieter Rencken advises Ferrari to sign the former Pirelli engineer, considering him perfect to the previously indicated profile: “Mr. Elkann, you could do much worse than to call Paul Hembery”.
Will the name reported by Dieter Rencken for the post-Binotto role in Ferrari be able to make its way among the already known names?
