Part of Ferrari staff (initially) refused to take part in podium ceremony and team photoshoot at Silverstone. Part of Ferrari staff (initially) refused to take part in podium ceremony.

Former Scuderia Ferrari press officer Alberto Antonini write an article for formulapassion.it in which he revealed that part of the Ferrari staff (initially) refused to take part in the podium ceremony and the team photoshoot after the end of the race in Silverstone. This comes after the Italian side made some highly criticized strategy calls by not pitting Charles Leclerc for new soft tyres when the Safety Car was deployed in the final stages of the British Grand Prix, which led to Charles finishing outside the podium.

Here is the moment as recalled by Alberto Antonini:

“I was told – and I trust the source – about an unedifying episode that took place immediately after the Silverstone race in the winners’ garage. A part of the Ferrari staff would have refused, at least initially, to attend the podium ceremony and the usual photos. If it is true, as I fear, it is not a good sign. A bit of healthy rivalry within the garage is fine, every mechanic and every technician must cheer for “his” driver, but the common interest must be to aim to win. To win the race and then, of course, also the world championship, indeed the world championships.” – wrote Alberto Antonini, who was the head of Scuderia Ferrari’s Formula 1 press office until earlier 2019.

“Even more than the highly-commented episode of Charles Leclerc’s failure to be called back to the pits for the tyre change, the experts are perplexed by those ten laps in which Charles, faster, asked for a way and the pitwall remained silent (and no one could image at that moment that a safety car would arrive to regroup everyone). If I could give a suggestion, I would tell them to put behind a race which, from an image point of view, seems to have transformed a victory into a defeat. Just look at the comments on the Scuderia’s Facebook profile. For this writer, social media is a thorn in that place; but they exist and neglecting them today is not always a good policy. So, I was saying, if I could make a suggestion, I would first of all think about healing that far from serene atmosphere that seems to have established itself within the Ferrari Racing Department. But then, as Charles Leclerc would say, who am I to make suggestions? The important thing is to safeguard the final result, otherwise it might be hard to explain to the world what happened. Especially for a communication that resides in Maranello but, at its highest levels, does not speak Italian.” – Alberto Antonini concluded.

I really hope so. Ferrari is CL worst enemy. Embarassing managment and strategy.

Very happy for a Ferrari win and for Carlos Sainz, but I must admit I was not all that pleased with the result in general, and felt somewhat cheated. Ferrari could have easily had that 1 and 2 that they were talking about before the race, and they must bear in mind at all times what their ultimate and main goal is for the year.

Ferrari team and strategists are thinking and acting like clowns. If they keep it up, they will destroy there chance of both championships and eventually lose a great driver Charles. I understand Charles frustration.

I mean this has never ever happened in the past with Ferrari…. Oh wait it’s the same thing every year….if anyone is going to snatch defeat from the clutches of victory because of team meddling it’s Ferrari.

I am now so sick and tired of everyone just copying what someone else said . They all feel CL was cheated out of a victory. Is everyone blind or is everyone just a special needs case. Let us not forget that CL was crying over the radio for Ferrari to swap positions with CS in the beginning of the race because he was apparently faster because of the healthy dose of drs and slip stream. When roles was reversed Ferrari quickly brought in CS for tyres to hide this fact from the special needs cases that just like repeating what so called experts say. Problem is Ferrari botched Sainz race in Canada by fitting the wrong set of tyres onto his car ( hard compound) with only 10 laps to go and it prevented him from sailing past max to win the race but guess what . They never made that same mistake with CL . So please everyone build a bridge and get over it because we all know that CL gets special treatment at Ferrari and don’t let me start with the engine mapping nonsense they get upto not only at Ferrari but many other teams . So to get back to my point . Sainz was taken out of the lead of the race and the race was then gifted to CL which is silly because even at red bull we have this and they call it team orders . What team order Is a professional word for race fixing. You can call it what you want but when you put the needs of one driver ahead of a team mate then it’s no longer racing because the outcome of the race is predetermined. How can motor racing be called motor racing when one team member has to let the other team member win for the benefit of the team . That is utter nonsense. That is race fixing and what is the point of it. Red bull already stole one championship and now Perez has to give up his one and only chance of becoming a world champion because red bull has to make max a world champion because everyone knows his an FIA made champion. No matter what the FIA post and what the commentators say the sport has been drag through the mad to a point of no return and giving into max and Lewis was the biggest mistake. The FIA should have given Lewis back his title and told him sorry for the inconvenience but thanks here is your title but goodbye there is young talent that can fill your position . Same with max . FIA should have said thanks for your support but we can’t condone cheating and people bringing the sport down . But take your fan crowd and go try to rule a different sport . That would have given the sport it’s respectability it needed after then end of season chaos. But we all know it was the FIA themselves that created the problem and if they brought it to light then people like max would not keep quiet about it and hence he was crowned world champion. So please people with special needs cases . Build a bridge and get over it as Carlos Sainz was the driver of the day and he truly deserved to win the race on merit .
