Ollie Bearman did not hold back his criticism of Yuki Tsunoda after a near-accident during the 2025 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin. On lap 35, the Haas driver attempted an overtake on Yuki Tsunoda at Turn 15, but was forced to widen his line to avoid contact with the Red Bull. The maneuver pushed him onto the grass at the edge of the track, causing him to lose control of his car and spin. Despite the frightening moment, the British driver managed to rejoin the race, though his frustration at the end was clear.
“It was really dangerous, against the spirit in which we should race and the image we should give to young drivers coming up from karting,” Oliver Bearman said after the race. “You simply don’t drive like that. Yuki Tsunoda changed his line several times in the previous laps, and when I tried to go for the move, he didn’t leave even a car’s width, forcing me to take evasive action to avoid a collision.” – the Ferrari junior pointed out following the United States Grand Prix.
Oliver Bearman added that the situation could easily have turned into something much worse: “Without my quick reaction, it could have been a huge crash. It’s a massive shame.” At the end of the race, the Haas driver finished ninth, while Yuki Tsunoda crossed the line in seventh place.
The young Briton also recalled another incident involving Yuki Tsunoda during Saturday’s Sprint Race, when the Japanese driver collided with his former teammate Isack Hadjar at Turn 1. “In the Sprint Race, he dived down the inside at the first corner and hit his own teammate. And then in the main race, he did exactly the same thing. His driving seems a bit desperate, as we saw again in his defensive moves today,” Oliver Bearman concluded.
