Formula 1 is evaluating the possibility for the upcoming years of going racing around England’s capital city, with some revitalised plans being conformed for a possible London Grand Prix in the future.
Given the fact that Formula 1 is enjoying arguably its biggest popularity in the last two decades, one of the most difficult tasks for the F1 top management is finding a way of including all the possible events into a calendar that should still remain manageable for F1 drivers and team members.
As a result, plans for a London Grand Prix are back on the table, as reported by British daily national newspaper The Times. A proposed circuit plan is in place, while discussions with Formula 1 management and attempts to identify the required financial support continue to take place.
It is reported that as part of a £250million idea to redevelop the Royal Docks area in East London, a 3.6 mile, 22-turn circuit has been added to the plans, which has been likened to Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, home of the Canadian Grand Prix, including long straights and heavy braking areas.
Design consultants Dar and the LDN Collective are in charge of the proposal, that seems to also include floating grandstands and floating constructions in order to provide hospitality, entertainment and food during the Formula 1 race weekend. The street circuit should have a total capacity of about 92,000 seats.
The track would reportedly be set below decking which could then be removed and replaced after the event. At the same time it is worth pointing out that a London Grand Prix is not considered a direct threat to the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit, with both grands prix instead set to feature on the Formula One calendar together. The London Grand Prix wants to join the calendar starting with the 2026 campaign.

“Once we have planning consent with a fair wind we can build this within 24 months,” Max Farrell, LDN Collective CEO, said in an interview for The Times – “So really, I think there’s a best-case scenario of having a London Grand Prix here in August 2026. If everyone gets behind it, that would be feasible.” – Max Farrell concluded.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan has allegedly expressed his support for the project.
