New Formula 1 anthem unveiled in Barcelona by Alan Walker

On this qualifying Saturday in Barcelona, we at ScuderiaFans.com had the honor of joining a very select group of colleagues for an exclusive event at the circuit, where Formula 1’s latest musical venture was officially unveiled.

“The Sting Within Me,” the title of the new track, was crafted using raw Formula 1 audio samples. It aims to transform the adrenaline of a race weekend into a global anthem for a new generation of fans, creating high-energy moments for audiences worldwide. What exactly does Formula 1 sound like? That is the central question behind this collaboration between Alan Walker and STING Energy®, the prominent PepsiCo energy drink brand. Promoted and curated by Warner Music India, the track is inspired by the speed, sound, and raw emotion of the pinnacle of motorsport.

This project was more than just a typical crossover between music and motorsport; it was the culmination of a concept that had already gained significant traction online. Fans had noticed that the roar of a Formula 1 engine sounds uncannily like a single word: “Stinggg.” For Alan Walker, the project merged two worlds that have long fueled his passions outside of the recording studio: racing and energy drinks. As a lifelong fan of motorsports and racing games, he saw the partnership as an opportunity to channel the intensity and excitement of the grid into an original track designed for fans both at the track and at home.

From the paddock to the studio: Crafting a visceral anthem

Drawing inspiration from the thunderous engines and the electric atmosphere of a grand prix weekend, Walker built the track around the tension, anticipation, and eventual release that define the sport. Fascinated by the growing synergy between electronic music and the F1 world, the producer approached the challenge of creating a contemporary racing anthem through his distinct creative lens. Working alongside STING® Energy and Formula 1, he gained access to a rich archive of engine notes and trackside audio recordings. By fusing these mechanical elements with his signature melodic and cinematic production style, Walker created a piece that captures the very heart of a race weekend.

Key insights gained from discussions with Mercedes driver George Russell further helped shape the track’s direction. “Formula 1 already sounds electronic in its own right,” Alan Walker remarked. “The engines have a rhythm; the buildup of tension, the atmosphere, the pressure—it all has a beat. Once I saw the connection with ‘STING,’ it was impossible to ignore. I wanted the track to hit with the same G-force as a race start. Performing it live in Barcelona made it even more surreal because you could feel that emotion from the fans in real-time.”

“Last year, fans realized that F1 cars produce a sound similar to ‘STINGGG’ when they race, and the reaction showed us how naturally racing, sound, and culture can blend,” stated Eugene Willemsen, CEO of International Beverages at PepsiCo. “What started as a viral moment quickly evolved into something much bigger: Sting has become the sound of Formula 1 for fans globally. With ‘The Sting Within Me,’ we’ve taken that idea further, turning the raw energy of F1 into something fans can stream, share, and experience beyond the circuit. It’s about bringing Formula 1 into the cultural conversation in an immediate way.”

Expanding the Formula 1 lifestyle

Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer of Formula 1®, added: “Today, Formula 1 is about much more than what happens on the track; it’s about the sounds, experiences, and emotions felt when connecting with our sport. This new anthem is proof that the sport has grown far beyond the track limits, allowing fans to enjoy unique moments of the action in their daily lives. Through this new track, Sting is helping even more fans connect with one of the elements that makes this sport special—its visceral sound—and helping us expand our ever-growing global fanbase.”

Jay Mehta, Managing Director of Warner Music India & SAARC, noted: “Alan has brilliantly captured the energy of Formula 1, reflecting the pace, intensity, and atmosphere of the sport. This collaboration highlights the powerful link between music and sports while reflecting our ongoing focus on creating a wider 360-degree ecosystem for artists and partners beyond the traditional recorded music business.”

More than just a song, “The Sting Within Me” reflects how Formula 1 is increasingly transcending sport to become a cross-cultural force in music, fashion, gaming, and digital culture. Through this release, STING Energy continues to cement its identity within the worlds of motorsport and pop culture. The debut at the Barcelona Grand Prix marked the first time fans could experience the track live, hearing the emotional frequency of Formula 1 transformed into music in real-time. The track, which we were able to preview during the event, will be played again in the fan zones tonight before its global release on all major streaming platforms.

In summary, the launch of “The Sting Within Me” in Barcelona marks a significant milestone in Formula 1’s ongoing mission to blend elite motorsport with global pop culture. By utilizing authentic engine acoustics and collaborating with a world-renowned artist like Alan Walker, the sport is successfully weaponizing its unique auditory identity to engage a younger, digitally-native audience. As the track makes its way from the Spanish paddock to international streaming playlists, it shows that the modern F1 experience is as much about the visceral atmosphere and lifestyle as it is about the wheel-to-wheel action on the circuit.
