In just over ten days, it will have been exactly ten years since the tragic skiing accident in Maribel that forever changed Michael Schumacher’s life. What seemed like a carefree family vacation, just a year after his second (this time definitive) retirement from Formula 1, turned out to be the beginning of an endless ordeal, leaving many unanswered questions to this day.
Michael Schumacher’s current condition: Former manager Willi Weber now resigned
“When I think of Michael now, unfortunately, I no longer have any hope of seeing him again,” said the former German manager in an interview for Focus.de. “No positive news after 10 years, and in the official documentary, you could hear from the emotional statements of Corinna and Mick that he still cannot walk or speak.”
“Of course, I regret very much not having visited Schumacher, and I blame myself. I should have gone to see him in the hospital. I suffered like a dog after his accident. It hit me incredibly, you can imagine. Also, because at a certain point, Corinna no longer allowed any contact. There came a time when I had to let go of Michael and move on.”
“Even three or four years later, people who recognized me continued to ask, ‘You are Schumacher’s former manager. How is Michael?'” Then I stopped trying to explain and thought, ‘Why doesn’t anyone ask how I am?’ For me, it was clear: ‘Well, now it’s over. These things have to get out of my head.'”
Recently, Michael Schumacher’s name has returned to the headlines with Jean Todt’s recent statements, claiming to still regularly see his former colleague and friend from the Ferrari days.
In addition, German journalist Jens Gideon shed light on two serious mistakes made that day, one by Michael and one by the first responders.
In these ten years, the Schumacher dynasty in Formula 1 has continued with his son Mick, who raced for two seasons at Haas in 2021 and 2022.

According to Weber, if Schumi were still present today, his son’s career would have gone very differently: “I believe that Michael wanted to bring the boy into F1 and manage him as I did. If he had been alongside Mick, Guenther Steiner would not have played such a negative role with him, and Mick would have had a second chance elsewhere.”
Next year, Mick will enter the WEC, with Weber giving him some advice: “The boy has to adapt, just like his father did at the time. This is not a Formula car. You can’t throw it into a corner like a Formula 3, which Michael drove with the precision of a Swiss watch.”
“The car doesn’t adapt perfectly, and that’s why Michael wasn’t the fastest among sports cars. But he learned a lot for the future. It showed later on. I wish the same for Mick.”
