A mistake in turn 17 cost Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz the chance to fight for the front row in Miami’s Sprint Qualifying. The Spaniard isn’t pleased with Friday’s performance and didn’t feel comfortable with the Ferrari SF-24 car, but aims to make up for it tomorrow.
After a promising Free Practice 1 session, Carlos Sainz didn’t expect the difficulties he encountered in his car during qualifying. Once he entered SQ1, the Spaniard immediately noticed something different compared to the car he had left a few hours earlier. “There was a strange change in behavior between free practice and the first qualifying session,” he pointed out.
“We struggled with grip and putting together the laps or sectors within the lap. We need to examine everything because I struggled throughout the qualifying. When I put on the soft tires, I had a good lap but then I made a mistake in turn 17 where I lost a lot of time.” Up to that point, Carlos Sainz’s sector times were perfectly in line with those of his Maranello teammate Charles Leclerc, who finished second behind Max Verstappen.
The potential for a front row was all there, and Carlos Sainz didn’t hide his disappointment for the mistake. “I’m not happy, but I hope to be able to change things tomorrow. Today, the feelings in free practice were good, but then they worsened in qualifying, so it’s hard to know what will happen tomorrow,” – Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz concluded at the end of the Sprint Qualifying session which was held at the Miami International Autodrome in Florida.
