Before the start of the first free practice session for the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, Sky Sports F1 expert Martin Brundle shared his thoughts on the rumours that Lewis Hamilton could join the Maranello team in 2024 and what this would mean for the sport:
“With my Formula 1 cap on I’d love to see Lewis in Ferrari, and go there and try do a Michael Schumacher and win a championship there, I think it would be a wonderful story for next year. I even know where the rumour came from, it’s all been a bit mischievous, but I can’t tell you that. It makes no sense for him to step away from Mercedes-Benz at this time.” – Martin Brundle explained.
“I’ve negotiated a lot of Formula One contracts for myself and for other drivers and I’ve never seen an accurate figure in the media yet, by some margin, including my own contract. These numbers get banded about. It is a little bit different at Mercedes now, they’ve got George, George is a potential Champion, they’re not just leaning on Lewis now, so I think the dynamics might have changed in the negations. But Lewis is box office, he transcends this sport far more than any other driver.” – the Sky Sports F1 pundit continued.
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has a contract with Mercedes that currently expires at the end of the 2023 championship. For now, a new deal has not been reached for extending his contract despite the fact that both parties stated several times that it is in fact just a formality. A few days ago, the British media reported that the Maranello team had made a £40m contract offer to Lewis Hamilton in order for the British driver to join the Italian side.

Scuderia Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur denied yesterday that such an offer was ever made, while Lewis Hamilton once again expressed his intention to sign a new deal with the German side and therefore continue with Mercedes for the following years.
