Scuderia Ferrari has secured Lewis Hamilton for 2025. A colossal deal (an expected income of €400 million for the Englishman over 2 years) that involves a precise dual strategy. On one hand, having a champion who, in addition to tenacity and competitiveness behind the wheel, will bring vast know-how to the Scuderia. On the other, a return of image that is nothing to scoff at and undoubtedly adds to Maranello’s prestige.
While we await to uncover what the future holds, once again, FUnoanalisitecnica had the opportunity to discuss with Leo Turrini, a guest on their Spit Stop podcast. Their colleague, a journalist experienced in the Ferrari world, provided several insightful reflections. Undoubtedly interesting arguments arose, which they presented on their website.
Hamilton/Ferrari, the meeting between myth and legend: the real challenge will be forging a competitive car
The operation of bringing Hamilton to Ferrari was strongly desired by John Elkann. Last year, persistent rumors circulated in this regard because the president of the Scuderia made a serious attempt to bring Lewis to Maranello. In terms of media, this is a truly sensational move: the partnership between a myth and a legend. Yes, because Lewis Hamilton, by the numbers, is the driver who has won the most in the history of Formula 1.
It’s a combination that has no equal. This is evidenced by the “response” on Wall Street, where, in a few hours, the Prancing Horse brand saw its capitalization increase by a whopping 7 billion euros. But let’s talk purely from the financial perspective, where the communicative impact has indeed made a bang. A context that, to prove its utmost validity, must also be effective on the track.
Ferrari faces a challenge that makes palms sweat. We’re not talking about the management skills the Scuderia will have to display in the relationship between Hamilton and Leclerc; that will come later. The real demonstration will be providing these two drivers with a car capable of fighting for the world championship. After all, we can’t forget that the Scuderia hasn’t won since 2008, a whopping seventeen years.
The table of Ferrari engineers, where the head of the racing department resides, will have to show that it is up to the task for individuals of this caliber, especially concerning Lewis Hamilton. There is also another interesting theme that needs attention. If Lewis chose to leave Mercedes, as a deep connoisseur of the environment, it is likely because he understood that the Brackley team would not offer him the chance to fight for a third world title.

And in reflection, by betting on Ferrari, it is more than evident that the Scuderia’s future projects convinced him more than those of the Stuttgart team. This is because a driver of his caliber, as long as he races, cannot and has no intention of foregoing the opportunity to win. This context fills the Italian team with responsibilities. This, indeed, is the real challenge.
Regarding the dualism theme between the aforementioned drivers, we can say that Charles Leclerc is certainly not angry with Ferrari for hiring Lewis. At the same time, however, it seems evident that defining the Ferrari driver as enthusiastic about this choice seems difficult. The Monegasque, in fact, although not afraid of Lewis Hamilton, knows well that having such a teammate is not quite the same as sharing the garage with Carlos Sainz.
Closing this topic, one last speculation regarding Liberty Media. In terms of media, Ferrari’s operation for 2025 multiplies infinitely the interest that will fall on Formula 1. Stefano Domenicali and the stars-and-stripes ownership will be very pleased, and perhaps, hopefully, for a while, they won’t have to come up with “chromed plastic gimmicks” to attract spectators to the pinnacle of motorsport.
