Yesterday, Red Bull clinched the Constructors’ title thanks to Max Verstappen’s success at the Suzuka circuit in the Japanese Grand Prix, where the sixteenth race of the 2023 Formula One season took place. A Grand Prix which unfortunately revealed that Singapore was just a one-off moment for the Milton Keynes team and that the FIA’s directive TD018 didn’t harm the RB19. Italian journalist Leo Turrini discussed this and other events of the Japanese race on his quotidiano.net blog. Here is an excerpt from his comments.
Leo Turrini: “I confirm, Verstappen wasn’t affected”
“I confirm it. Verstappen wasn’t affected,” Leo Turrini begins, referring to another of his articles in which he predicted that Red Bull wouldn’t suffer from the recent rule change regarding front wings. “The FIA directive didn’t take anything away from the championship dominator. The fact that Max single-handedly won the Constructors’ Championship for Red Bull is more significant than any consideration, despite the disaster of the Mexican driver. I’m beginning to think (copyright of my bro Fabio Tavelli) that Sergio Perez is causing so many disasters to please the Red Bull sponsors, as international coverage hardly even frames Super Max anymore,” the journalist jokes.
Then he turns his attention to the others: “Ferrari is like this. Decently anonymous. Even behind McLaren, on a real track like Suzuka. Not a Red team for seppuku. But not even for banzai. Mercedes is becoming embarrassing. For months, Toto Wolff promised us a super car capable of breaking Verstappen’s back, deluding the poor guys. Yet it can’t even manage the relationship between Lewis Hamilton and the rooster George Russell.” Finally, the assessment of another team that, after a good start, is ending the season downhill: “Fernando Alonso was abandoned by his team. Aston Martin seemed like his Viagra but quickly returned to reality.” – Italian journalist and motorsport expert Leo Turrini concluded.
