“It was my mistake, I’m sorry”: Charles Leclerc apologized to the Ferrari team following the accident at Turn 22 that ended the second free practice session for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Despite the heavy impact, the Monegasque driver does not have to uese a new chassis or a new gearbox and will therefore be able to continue the weekend without penalties.
Charles Leclerc has never hidden that he has a predilection for city tracks, but he has already reached his third crash on this type of tracks from the beginning of the championship, considering the incidents in Baku and Monte Carlo, the latter very painful since it did not allow him to start the race from pole position. “By disintegrating – at least this was the visual effect – his SF21 against the barriers of turn 22, Charles definitely made the Maranello team’s mechanics use of swear words at the end of the second practice session. They are now forced as two weeks ago in Qatar to additional work to rebuild the car” – Andrea Cremonesi wrote in the pages of Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The journalist of the Milanese newspaper wanted to encourage the young talent from Maranello: “The desire to seek the limit is a healthy propensity that unites the most ambitious drivers, but there are more risks when you drive a car that is not perfectly balanced like the Ferrari in this ‘year. You need to be able to stop in time. Charles doesn’t always succeed. His mantra after the apology is that he will “learn from mistakes”. He needs to do it quickly, at least before Ferrari gives him back a winning car”. Also because Carlos Sainz paws alongside him, defined by the newspaper as “less explosive, but a very concrete driver”.
Corriere della Sera, on the other hand, underlined the difficulties of the SF21 car at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit: “Charles Leclerc took the blame for the mistake and apologized to the team. But it was a difficult start, also confirmed by the tenth time of Carlos Sainz”.
