Analyzing Charles Leclerc’s race in Japan, Italian journalist Roberto Chinchero expressed his opinion regarding the strategy implemented by Scuderia Ferrari, highlighting that, thanks to the single stop, the Monegasque “brought home” a set of new hard tires. If it had been soft, however, it would have been very useful to him yesterday in qualifying.
Below we report some of his most important comments:
Roberto Chinchero on Charles Leclerc’s strategy at the Suzuka circuit
Roberto Chinchero stated: “Today Charles Leclerc brings home a set of new hard tires, which, had it been soft, was the set that would have been very useful to him yesterday in Q3 qualifying. However, it’s a strategy that unfolded lap after lap and wasn’t planned. The engineers saw that Charles managed the first set well, going well beyond the calculations, and in the end, the window opened to make only one stop, a strategy that ultimately paid off.” – the Italian journalist added.
At the end of the Japanese GP held at Suzuka, another Italian commentator Carlo Vanzini also analyzed what Ferrari showed today. Compared to last year, the Italian team indeed made a step forward in the chase to Red Bull, but lost something in qualifying, thus making Sunday difficult for its drivers. Below are the words of the Italian journalist and commentator.
Carlos Vanzini’s opinion on Ferrari
Carlo Vanzini, during the Paddock Live program broadcast on Sky Sport F1 Italia, explained: “With ifs and buts, you get nowhere. You have to find what you had last year. The short blanket issue that Matteo Bobbi always talks about, this year Ferrari pulled it up for the race pace but down for Saturday and qualifying. Now they will have to find a way to fix it.”
The commentator then concluded by saying: “Okay for the great race of Charles Leclerc, who was also voted as the driver of the day worldwide, but I want to emphasize the Ferrari package, because even Carlos Sainz’s race, which at a certain point seemed compromised, went great guns to recover, making some quick overtakes to not lose time and securing a nice podium. If he had been third in front of Norris and behind Perez, I am sure, almost convinced, that with Checo he could perhaps have contended, even seeing the laps he did at the end.” – the Italian pointed out.
