Charles Leclerc has decided to honor the memory of one of Ferrari’s most beloved drivers, Gilles Villeneuve, with a special helmet. “Gilles was an incredible driver. He had an unrivaled passion for Ferrari,” says the Monegasque driver. “He was always ready to give his all on the track. This is my special helmet for the Canadian Grand Prix. It is inspired by the design that characterized Villeneuve’s helmet, distinguished by the red and black colors.”
A few months ago, Leclerc had the opportunity to drive a piece of Ferrari history that belonged to Gilles. In September of last year, at the Fiorano circuit, Charles had the honor of testing a single-seater that remained in the hearts of many Ferrari fans: the 1979 312 T4 driven by Gilles Villeneuve and Jody Scheckter. Even at that time, the strong bond that the Monegasque driver feels for the beloved Canadian was evident, to the point that all he could say, overcome with emotion, was “beautiful, absolutely beautiful.”
A year ago, former team principal Mattia Binotto had compared Charles to Gilles. Commenting on it, Charles had said, “It makes me proud. Gilles gave 200% every time he got in the car and had an unparalleled passion for Ferrari. I don’t know if it shows from the outside, but I think I have it too.”
