Antonio Tajani, Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited the Imola Circuit today for an institutional meeting, accompanied by a delegation including Mayor Marco Panieri, Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini, and Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy Valentino Valentini.
During the visit, Antonio Tajani reiterated the Farnesina’s support for the Grand Prix, providing a contribution of €6 million aimed at supporting Made in Italy and the local area. Additionally, the Vice President intends to invite Mauro Vieira, Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the tragic loss of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger, both of whom perished in the dramatic weekend of 1994.
Antonio Tajani’s Visit to Imola:
“The Farnesina will continue to support the Grand Prix through ICE (Italian Trade Agency), led by President Matteo Zoppas, with a contribution of €6 million,” stated Antonio Tajani – “This initiative will serve to promote Made in Italy and the local area, an example of sports diplomacy on which I have decided to focus wholeheartedly. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I have created an office to support every international sports initiative to promote export and Made in Italy.” – he continued.
“Imola is at the heart of the Motor Valley, a strategic district for Made in Italy. Farnesina’s action in the automotive sector will also continue at the European institutional level to ensure that the evolution of community legislation realistically accompanies the modernization of the automotive industry. We must not create damage to employment levels in the right commitment towards a sustainable transition.”
Marco Panieri, the Mayor of Imola, also discussed the future of the circuit: “The meeting was a significant opportunity for our city to once again share with the national government the potential of our territory and the role of the racetrack in promoting Made in Italy worldwide, thanks to the important international events that will be hosted in 2024.”
“In addition to the F1 GP, there will be the WEC test and the Ferrari World Finals, but let’s not forget the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the deaths of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger and the passage of the Tour de France.” – he added – “Particularly, the collaboration related to the Grand Prix of Made in Italy and Emilia-Romagna continues, involving significant teamwork between numerous national and local entities. Today, this event plays a significant role, especially after the floods and the consequent cancellation of the 2023 edition, in the restart of Emilia-Romagna and our territories.”

Finally, Andrea Corsini, Tourism Councilor for the Emilia-Romagna Region, commented: “The Imola Circuit is a strategic infrastructure. The F1 GP represents a flagship event in the Emilia-Romagna sports program with an extraordinary economic impact and strong territorial marketing. We are pleased that the minister has recognized this and confirmed the ministry’s contribution, through Ice, which, together with ACI’s contribution, allows us to organize the Grand Prix.” – he concluded.
After the flood that devastated much of Emilia-Romagna last May, including Imola, the racetrack is gearing up for a fresh start, hoping to deliver a Grand Prix that lives up to expectations this year.
The current contract with F1 has been renewed until 2026, precisely due to the cancellation of the past edition. However, similar to Monza, the goal is to continue having a double appointment in Italy for a long time to come.
