The Enzo and Dino Ferrari Racetrack in Imola has undergone a makeover. After modernization works, the management of the motor racing facility announced that the Italian circuit will be the first in the world to use a green, innovative, and sustainable track surface, made with specially selected recycled hard plastics.
As reported on the autodromoimola.it website, the innovative technology used is entirely made in Italy, patented and developed by Iterchimica, an Italian company based in Suisio (BG) specializing in sustainable solutions for the road sector.
The racetrack’s press release states: “The use of Gipave ensures better performance in terms of resistance and durability, increasing the lifespan of the pavement compared to the best technologies currently used in the market, and greatly reducing environmental impacts thanks also to less necessary maintenance. In particular, with a circular economy perspective, the adopted technologies reduce energy and raw material consumption, employing reusable and fully recyclable products and materials.”
The General Manager of the Imola Racetrack, Pietro Benvenuti, stated: “We decided to asphalt from the entrance of Rivazza to the Paddock because it is the most stressed part due to the transit of heavy vehicles. Sustainability is important to us; we are a certified circuit for sustainable sports events. The resurfacing is a first step for us to experiment with this technology, with the aim of also intervening on the resurfacing of the track through this innovative process that can be an example for other racetracks worldwide.” – he explained.
This resurfacing intervention has therefore made the Imola motor racing facility enter history as the First Racetrack in the world to use this new technology, which will lead motorsport to be increasingly green and sustainable.
