Other circuits are very interested in returning to the Formula 1 calendar, with Germany potentially making an appearance from 2026 with a new format.
Despite there still being several races to go, many uncertainties about the future of the cars, anticipation for 2026 is continuously growing. At the beginning of the year, we talked about the possible, then confirmed, arrival in the calendar of Madrid, while recently about the possible return of Istanbul. Today another piece is added to the already busy calendar; indeed, Germany would be almost ready to return in 2026 with Hockenheim and Nurburgring and a new format.
The last time Formula 1 held a Grand Prix in Germany was in 2020, when the 20 cars raced at the highly secure Nurburgring in GP configuration. According to DPA, the two tracks are hopeful that the premier series will grant them a lifeline for 2026. Currently, the absence of the two tracks in the calendar is due to a lack of investment and low popularity of Formula 1 in Germany.
However, Stefano Domenicali, contacted by DPA, suggests that there might be a potential solution on the horizon to see the German tracks back on the calendar.
“In 2026 you will see something interesting. We are talking with European organizers to do something that will be announced soon.” Without going into details, Stefano Domenicali added, “There will be many Grands Prix, especially in Europe, where we have several options.” On the table of options, there could be a system of two or more events that would be alternated every single year in the race slots.
Jorn Teske, director of the Hockenheim circuit, also spoke about this, confident that it would bring the German Grand Prix back to life.
“We believe that Formula 1 is still interested in Germany as a market. We were, are, and remain in contact with Formula 1 and are always exploring common possibilities. We place great importance on the rotation model because it has proven effective in the past with our colleagues at the Nürburgring.”

Also, the spokesperson for the Nürburgring, Alexander Gerhard, commented, saying: “For us, the turning point is the economic profitability of an event. We will work together with the Hockenheimring.”
