On a Saturday not particularly ideal for Pirelli and Formula 1 in Qatar, news has emerged from England regarding a possible renewal. The Italian supplier is said to have beaten the competition from the Japanese brand Bridgestone.
According to the BBC, the contract signed by the series and the supplier would have a duration of three years, from 2025 to 2027. Additionally, there would be an option for a fourth year (2028).
The announcement is expected to come in the days following this week’s Grand Prix in Qatar; spokespeople for Pirelli and Formula 1 have reportedly declined to comment on the matter.
Furthermore, Formula 1 would have made this decision with the awareness that this could be the last agreement between the two parties. In fact, Pirelli reportedly intends to conclude its involvement in Formula 1 at the end of 2027, as confirmed by the BBC.
The CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, is said to have had contact with Bridgestone to replace Pirelli from 2028. However, negotiations are in a very preliminary stage.
Bridgestone was the second brand to respond to the FIA’s tender and was in the running to take over from as early as 2025. However, their entry would come with just over a year to develop the tires, valid for only one season due to the regulatory change in 2026, which requires the construction of an additional prototype. Additionally, Bridgestone itself is said to have cooled off in the later stages of the negotiations.

These concerns, shared by Ferrari Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur, are among the primary reasons driving the push for Pirelli’s confirmation.
