After a 2023 Formula 1 season with few highlights and many uncertainties, Scuderia Ferrari is relying on the SF24 to turn its fortunes around, hoping that the RB20 won’t once again dominate the championship early on. Since the unveiling of the new red car, public opinion has been divided into two different schools of thought: some believe that the prancing horse has produced a car that is too conservative compared to competitors, while others, like Gerhard Berger, believe that the SF24 could have significant potential.
What to expect from the SF24?
“For now, there are only data from the simulator,” begins the interview with the former Austrian driver, who drove for the Maranello team from 1987 to 1989 and from 1993 to 1995, in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“If the new car will really be more drivable and faster, we will only know in the tests and after the first races. However, I also have the feeling that it could be an excellent season for Ferrari. Last year didn’t go as they expected. However, they improved a lot during the championship, and in the end, they were the team closest to Red Bull.” – he pointed out.
Gerhard Berger expresses a moderate optimism, aware that beating the Max Verstappen – Red Bull tandem will still be a challenging task for anyone: “They are the benchmark, and Max remains the favorite for the title. However, I believe that the others will narrow the gap, and I see Ferrari as the main pursuer.”
Frederic Vasseur will once again be at the helm of the team this year, gaining more and more praise from insiders and fans, especially after signing some high-profile names, including Loic Serra and Lewis Hamilton, both arriving from Mercedes in 2025.

“He is a team principal with great experience,” Gerhard Berger adds in conclusion. “He has achieved many successes in the lower categories and is making the right moves. There are excellent prospects for Ferrari in the future.”

Despite the confidence within the walls of Maranello, maintaining a low profile and the utmost humility is still essential, not knowing yet how competitive the other top teams will be. The Sakhir circuit will dispel any doubts, with the three-day testing session in Bahrain providing the first significant insights into the balance of power and the merit of the SF-24.
