Ferrari, too many difficulties
When Frederic Vasseur accepted the offer to lead the Ferrari team, he knew he was facing a difficult challenge. After all, a world championship has been expected from Maranello since 2008, and the only result requested of the French engineer by the ownership was to bring the Prancing Horse back to victory.
But Frederic Vasseur probably found himself involved in one of the worst possible scenarios. The track showed a Red Bull literally dominant, which after just five races – and four doubles – seems destined for a procession from here to the end of the year. While the Ferrari drivers made mistakes trying to go beyond the obvious limits of the SF-23 car.
The press immediately put pressure on the French manager, evoking a series of departures that are slowly being verified, just think of David Sanchez who moved to McLaren and Laurent Mekies who will soon move to Alpha Tauri, and bringing out names of possible arrivals – Pierre Waché and Enrico Balbo from Red Bull – immediately denied by the Horner-Marko duo.
In short, a situation far from ideal.
Flavio Briatore opens up on Ferrari
Flavio Briatore, a long-time manager in Formula 1 and current ambassador of the category, dedicated his analysis of this first part of the championship to the newspaper Il Riformista, making a bitter reflection for the Maranello team:
“Ferrari is very far behind, the car has countless problems, starting from fuel consumption, and Charles Leclerc, as we saw also in Miami, is not competitive, unlike his teammate Carlos Sainz who defended himself well. Ferrari cannot afford to say ‘next year’ for 15 years, it doesn’t stand up. Frederic Vasseur is just one man in a team. He’s trying to rebuild a suitable technical structure while not losing engineers.” – the former Renault team principal concluded.
