While Scuderia Ferrari was the only team without any updates in the previous race, which was held at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Canada, several modifications are expected for this weekend in Austria, some of which were “tested” during the filming day at the Fiorano circuit in recent days.
The new front wing is already on display outside the garage, and we are waiting to see if the SF-23 will also debut a new floor with significant changes in the front flow entry area, similar to the one used by Red Bull.
There is also anticipation for a rear suspension with geometry modifications (position of the upper arm attachment) and a third element with non-linear stiffness. However, it is unclear if it will debut at this circuit, where Ferrari had found a good setup last year.
The characteristics of the circuit, with highly abrasive asphalt and the rarefied air due to the altitude, will lead teams to adopt a heavily loaded rear wing, despite the many straights, in order to prevent sliding and excessive tire wear. The rarefied air causes a loss of downforce of about 7 points, which teams will also try to recover by lowering the cars to the maximum, possibly resulting in the return of the much-discussed porpoising.
We are eagerly awaiting more images that show not only further updates from Ferrari in Austria but also from all the other teams.
