Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have drawn their initial conclusions at the end of the three-day test in Bahrain, with the SF24 showing excellent signs, especially in terms of tire degradation.
What can be said about the 2024 Ferrari at the end of the three days of testing in Bahrain? Although it is still early to judge, it is already possible to make an assessment of what was seen on the track during these 72 hours, even though the real test will only come in a week. Both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz expressed confidence in the potential of the SF24, which seemed comfortable on the Sakhir circuit and showed significant improvements in tire degradation.
Ferrari Passes the Tests
“These have been three positive days, we closed them by completing a good number of laps once again and trying different things, which is definitely positive,” comments Charles Leclerc at the end of the day, after being involved in the last 4 hours of the pre-season.
“The car reacts exactly how we want, but it’s hard to judge our competitiveness level at the moment. Certainly, the feelings are better than a year ago: now we just have to focus on the Grand Prix, I can’t wait to get back in the car next week.”
As for his teammate, who is about to start his last season in red, Carlos Sainz declared: “I’m proud of the work done by the team for having put us in a position to have such productive tests.”
“We maximized the available time to prepare as best as we can for next week’s Grand Prix. Overall, it was another positive day.” – he pointed out.
“The initial red flag disturbed our schedule a bit, but despite that, I enjoyed every lap in the cockpit. We tried different configurations to collect as much data as possible. All in all, the car seems to be quite in order.” – the Ferrari man added.
Both the Spaniard and especially the Monegasque driver were protagonists of two excellent race simulations yesterday and today, although thinking of troubling Max Verstappen for the win, at the moment, still seems quite utopian.
The performance in the qualifying lap was also good, with Carlos Sainz recording the fastest time in the combined classification, just two-tenths off last season’s pole time. At this point, Ferrari’s concrete objective is to aim for the podium, with hopes of achieving even more, considering the difficulties encountered by Sergio Perez.
