This morning, Scuderia Ferrari hit the track at Fiorano with the SF-24 EVO, conducting final tests on the package that will debut in Italy in the next round of the 2024 Formula 1 championship, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the 4.909-kilometre Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, commonly known as Imola.
In recent weeks, anticipation for this package has grown tremendously, along with expectations for potential results. After weeks of rumors and confirmations, Ferrari took to the track at Fiorano with the SF-24 EVO for final checks before the Imola Grand Prix.
Recent updates on the SF-24 EVO spoke of significant aerodynamic changes in the sidepod area, especially around the inlets. This has indeed been the case with the B version of the SF-24, which features an inverted tray solution. While there are similarities with Red Bull, Ferrari has added its own distinct touch to the adopted solution. Slightly taller and wider to better feed the radiators of the Ferrari power unit without compromising reliability.
This solution has allowed Ferrari to create a much more powerful underfloor, with increased airflow running beneath the SF-24 EVO sidepods. It’s not easy to discern from the photos, but the SF-24 EVO has combined the vertical inlet with the horizontal one, in a solution similar to Alpine and Mercedes. The innovations in this area don’t end there; in fact, around the Halo aerodynamic profiles, a small micro-aerodynamic deflector has appeared to correct airflow. From these photos, it’s not clear if there have been changes to the sidepods, but Ferrari may have narrowed the lower section towards the center of the car. This would be a solution to enhance aerodynamic efficiency and airflow beneath them.
There have also been several changes in the upper area of the car, with modifications to the engine cover, specifically to the hot air vents. For now, there is only one, with a wider opening and a shape that “ideally replicates” the profile of a NACA duct.
looks fast in my biased opinion
