Yesterday afternoon, the Nurburgring 24 Hours race took place at the Nordschleife circuit. The victorious car was the Ferrari 296 GT3 developed in Maranello by Oreca, finishing a remarkable 26.9 seconds ahead of Rowe Racing’s BMW M4 GT3. Completing the podium was the Mercedes AMG GT3 from the Mercedes Bilstein team.
The Prancing Horse car was in close contention for the top positions right from the start. Starting in fourth place, it quickly took the lead after only five laps, thanks to a strategic pit stop. After more than five hours of controlling the race against competitors, the 296 GT3 had a tense moment when it suffered bodywork and rear diffuser damage due to a puncture.
However, as reported by Autosprint, the technicians’ intervention, leveraging the car’s construction characteristics, allowed it to stay within the pit stop window for tire change and refueling. Antonello Coletta commented on the achieved victory: “The 296 GT3’s victory at the Nurburgring 24 Hours is a historic win, sought after for a long time, which makes us extremely happy and proud. Being able to break the German manufacturers’ dominance that lasted for many years in such a highly competitive scenario is truly incredible.” – the Head of Ferrari Attività Sportive GT explained.
He continued, saying: “To prevail on what is recognized as the most challenging track in the world, among the most complete and demanding tracks, achieving two victories and bringing all the cars to the finish line demonstrates how solid the 296 GT3 project is. With a non-penalizing Balance of Performance, the performance lives up to expectations.” – Antonello Coletta added.
