Ferrari Heading to Zandvoort
Over the weekend, Formula 1 will make its return to Zandvoort in the Netherlands for the first of ten events in the second half of the 2023 Formula One season, which will conclusively wrap up the current championship dominated so far by Red Bull and particularly by Max Verstappen. The Dutch driver has won both editions of the Grand Prix held so far since its return to the calendar in 2021.
The reigning world champion has consistently claimed pole position on home soil, and a year ago, he managed to outpace Charles Leclerc, who made a crucial mistake in the chicane after the DRS zone during the return stretch. Ferrari’s team principal, Frederic Vasseur, emphasized that just like in Monaco, Qualifying at Zandvoort carries significant weight on a track where overtaking is quite challenging.
Comments from Frederic Vasseur
“We have recharged our batteries and are ready to go again. We can do so off the back of a strong showing in Belgium that ended with a well-deserved podium for Charles, which was down to excellent preparation and a race that was well executed in terms of strategy, pace, tyre management and pit stops.
Even though we will as usual be focusing on our own efforts, we are well aware that, on a short lap like Zandvoort, the gaps between the teams behind Red Bull will be even closer than at Spa. Qualifying is particularly important at this track and the top ten on the grid will probably be fought out to the thousandth of a second. It will be a very busy weekend and we are aiming for a clean time on track to allow Charles and Carlos to get the maximum out of the SF-23.” – the Ferrari boss said, in the Maranello team’s official preview of the Dutch Grand Prix.
